You are providing mis-information. Do as you wish, your wallet will become aware of your misjudgment if you are lucky. I really don't care what you do, I'm only providing accurate information for discriminating indaviduals who will stand forwarned. It is a felony to "own" a RF amplifer capabel of operating above 24 MHz. It is a felony to operate one unless you have the proper credentials. It is "always" a felony to operate an RF amplifier in the 11 meter spectrum know as "CB" in the United States.

I am stating facts regardless of your opinions.

If some government agencies wish to persue you along these lines you will lose.

Sounds like a ham radio operator whining to me...

Thanks...

I think the only point that WTBurke is trying to make is that while the FCC is very lax on enforcement in this area, if you are unlucky enough to get caught by some young boot just out of the academy who's looking to make an example of someone... . well, it could very well be you! I'm not a licensed HAM but I do enjoy CB and the "freeband"... I certainly don't give a rats pi-tu about anyone (including myself!) using a linear... but facts are facts and law is law, that's the bottom line.

I'm curious, do you speed on the highway ever?

I noticed that you have modded your truck, I'm sure you have the CAT still installed (no test pipe?) and you well understand that some of the mods (black box) that you installed might be considered illegal in some states regarding emissions?

I agree, I was just poking some (hehe)!

I had a really good response all typed in last night and my internet (hotel wireless) died... all that typing!!!

I do not think the FCC has better things to do... they might track down someone with a bunch of complaints, but someone running slightly more power than normal (like say less than 200 watts) in a mobile is very unlikely to be bothered.

IMO, the FCC isn't really out to bust small timers... as said, they are out after the guy in town running a gazillion watts and bleeding over every toaster oven within 15 square blocks... I know, they annoy me too... . there is at least two in Reading that I know of right now...

Basically, everyone does something illegal... even speeding over the speed limit by 1mph is breaking the law (you could say adding a HP box is illegal since it renders emissions inoperative)... it is all in how much YOU are willing to bend those rules yourself. I do appreciate the guys that bring these points up that "annoy" some of us but really do educate the 500 other readers that might not be in the "know" and are reading this as research.

Thanks...

I sometime's think the FCC don't do enough sometimes, getting to be to much riff-raff,like people thinking they are on american idol trying to sing and strong foul language on (ch. 19) which gets a little old hearing sometimes. I used to run linears all the time and had no problems... always liked turning my lights on the truck when I keyed up,and bleeding across my neighbors and the pizza shop's TV set,etc :-laf .

You can get a good quality radio and antenna, get your SWR's as low as possible and still shoot skip without a linear.

Steved, seen your post about the guys in Reading running high power, probably the same guys I remember from years back. Some Puerto Rican in Lancaster got busted for his high power radio station a long while back. FCC came and took everything, and I think he may be back on.

WTBURKE for your information it is not a felony to own a linear amp that is capable of operating above 24mhz. you need to pick up a copy of the FCC rules and regulations. there are many freq. above that that are for the amature radio bands and most of them are allowed to use linears.

No, one is the local CB shop in town... and the other I know by his handle, but won't mention it. There are also several others... alot of mobiles.

And to respond to the other post... I too almost hate listening to all the garbage on the radio... those guys never think that they are not the only one on there... never know when a kid/family might be listening. It get's extremely bad around truck stops... and also, I find this funny and you might pay attention this sometime, when the moon is full!

Also, to ease some peoples minds... just because you have a linear doesn't mean your running it all day/every day. I only ran mine on low on the open road (read: interstate)... only ever bumped it up to reach out to someone or to give directions. Most people also follow this (except the aforementioned bad apples) and over the road rigs very rarely every cause any problems unless they happen to be in town or near someone else on the road.

WHOA there... calm down! :-{} I'm not passing judgement on anybody here! Just stating a fact... a law is a law is a law and if you do get caught breaking one by a law enforcement type that feels like enforcing that law you will get in trouble. Pretty simple.

Now, that said. . I agree that the chances are SLIM that you get caught running a mid-powered amp in your vehicle... I myself just ***might*** even have done it once, maybe even twice! :-laf

Anyway. . yes I speed occasionally and YES I do plan on taking the CAT off! Nobody's perfect... . :p

I agree with you.

Some on the CB make it bad for all.

Most of those that I talk to are pretty cool guys and gals, but there is some trash as always.

My Texas Star 667 with my Predator 10K is working great. I've shot some skip lately and can't believe how clean the reception and transmission is.

I'm out and on the side... .

Well, the 4300HP fell through (out bid by $1. 50... good!!)... so I ordered a 4600 turbo today from a local guy. FYI, there is another 4300HP on ebay right now.

I got the 4600 for $425 out the door all done up... he figures around 150 watts on AM... he's going to turn the dead key way down so it modulates better. I told him what I wanted it to do and he said it will be ready when I get home in a couple weeks.

Oh, I found this interesting because I did ask him about the output power... he has seen several of the "great" super tunes that claim 205 watts... he never saw one on AM do much over 150 watts (cleanly), just FYI. He said it all depends on the meter AND the input voltage. Seems some meters are a little "optimistic" and by cranking the input voltage up to 14 volts or more (more than your normal car's output) you can make an imaginary power output that looks good on a bench, but that is not obtainable in your car.

Does anyone on this board have a 4600??

Have you had anyone else see what kinda wattage it is doing? Curious to know what all they do to them to get 50 extra watts over a "stock" tuning.

I would have LOVED to show you my 1400 Watt MOBILE LINEAR ! :D

It was driven by a Boomer 400 Watt high drive linear which was driven by a 100 Watt Silver Buller Modular (linear) which was driven by my (modded to hell and back 30 Watt) Cobra 148 GTL.

Used to love blowing up azzzhole's CB's (reciever end)!!. Just pullup along side of their antennas a WHISTLE real loud into the microphone!

Actually, it was TOO BIG to use so I sold it. Could NOT use it within a mile or so of any habitted area. It would bleed EVERYTHING in sight! It would set off car alarms, open garage doors, open drive thru windows, knock out cash registers (at drive thrus, turn on security lights... . you name! It was a MONSTER!! Even bled across my town's TORNADO siren speakers!!! That was something else!! I used to go hide behind a gas station and talk to people as they where walking down the side walk!! It really was hilarious!! :D

I had a pretty hot linear when i was about 20 years old (about 15 years ago). I could drive by the local grain elevator, key up and talk through their intercom system which could be heard for blocks. I would always play the screaming woman noise maker through it, followed by tarzan. Always about midnight of course. I'm sure the neighbors were happy.

That's too funny!! BTW, she isn't screaming! She's moaning like she's getting **&&^'d !

All you people :-{} about antennas and power, and voltage, work and amperage... you all must have inadequate "antennas" :{ .

I would advise against someone  wiring an amplifier to compensate for that.

:-laf

Anyone who has tried the aforementioned solution, please share your experience.
