Big A , the trans is not weak , at least not the 2000 model , i put over 20k miles on mine and over 30 passes at the dragstrip , plus more burnouts than i care to think about BEFORE i changed the TC and VB , this is with about 475 hp at the flywheel . once i got to this HP level i was blowing thru the fluid coupling of the stock TC when unlocked , at full throttle my rpm drop between shifts was 100 rpm at full throttle . .

the problem is the stock TC design and the lo pressures created by the stock VB to keep the yuppies happy .

My truck with an EZ box slipped the transmission two times, both times the TC was locked and I was accelerating up a 5% or so grade with 2,000 lb in tow, other time no tow. Truck was running about 1900 rpm at about 65-68 mph.

I wasn't stomping on the pedal either.

Not too much fun seeing your RPMs rise with no corresponding MPH gain.

Mopar-Muscle, thanks for the reply. But, I'm still not clear on this. To me it seems that the shift points on the automatic are variable, depending on how far down the go pedal is pressed. For example under easy acceleration, my 1-2 shift is about 1200 rpm, under heavy accleration, it is closer to 2700.

Thanks

homicide , are sure sure the TC didn't unlock ? also towing up that grade at that rpm with an EZ could have the potential to slip the TC , the reason you need to do a TC and VB swap with DTT products , or with whatever you feel comfortable with , but if you go with something other than the DTT products , you may have to do it twice ... more $$$ ...

kurt , yes , shift point is dependant on throttle position , if you are just putting along it will shift at a lower rpm and dictated by the VB set up .

i think we need bill to answer the question as i don't know best how to explain the techincal aspects of why more hp moves the shift points correctly , as of yet anyhow , but i can get in my truck and depending on what is turned on , my shift points do occur at different rpms under FULL THROTTLE .
