Class C Cummins Motorhome???

Box level while towing

Just picked up a new (i. e. heavier) slide in Lance camper, and believe that I may need to upgrade from the current 33x12. 5x16. 5 load range "D" tires to load range "E" tires. Only problem: can't find any E rated / 10 ply tires in the 33x12. 5x16. 5 size except for Interco Trxus MT's - which are a bit too course for my needs (more of an AT tread preferable).

Any other brands / tires in that size with the E rating? Care to share your experiences with a particular tire in that size and rating?

I don't want to dump the 16. 5" rims as they are fairly new and in great shape. If I have no other choices, perhaps...

Thanks in advance

Thats gonna be tough, switching to 16" wheels would be better IMO as it would open up your options.

I am in the same position as you wanting a 33" E all terrain type tire. I may go to an 18" or even 20" Nitto or Toyo when my 17" Toyo's wear out. They are rated to 2755 lbs but the C range worries me. The bed never see's more than 600 lbs though.

With a slide-in, you need to be concerned with sway as well as load ratings. Lots of D's have load ranges (in larger tire sizes) higher than stock size E's, but the E's are WAY more stable. You need the 80 psi max air pressure capacity.

Yup. Exactly my reason for the switch. Really wish there were more options. May just go for the Trxus MT. 3400 lbs at 65psi, 10 ply rating. My existing wheels and tires are only 6 mos old (this camper deal was unexpected).

Thanks for the advice. Guess I'll go down and try the 'trade in'.

I would have to agree with everyone on going to 16" for options of tire choice. I have a friend whose Suburban we rebuilt. It had 16. 5's and the price of the limited tire selection was out rageous! Ended up getting a set of 16's from a 98 CTD- so now not only does he have a wider range of tires, but it looks better too with the Ram hub covers!:D

If you go to a 16" wheel then you might want to look around for some Chaparral branded tires - They seem to have a stiffer sidewall which would be good for a camper. They are more of a commercial grade tire.

Expensive, but load range E 10 ply.

Toyo has some load range E tires. I've e-mailed them and they get back to you in a couple of days. I tried to get them to put the load range in their size table. You could ask them about a specific tire.

Toyo

I may be wrong about this, but I believe the load range E Nittos used a 20" wheel. It's a distant memory though, so don't quote me.

I just wish more manufacturers would supply the load range information in their literature and on their websites. They display everything down to revolutions per mile, but they won't tell us if the tire is properly rated for our vehicle!

Try looking at NTR's tires they have what I think you might need.

I have 10 ply that I got from them about 2 months ago. They are made by Cooper with the NTR name on them.

Ditch the 16. 5s. I had a blowout on my old truck and no place in truckee had a tire for me. Had to risk the drive into reno just to get a tire. Wheels arent' that expensive.
