Hello all,

Georend is in the process of building a transmission for my truck, and I keep going back and forth on whether or not to have a lockup switch install when it goes in the truck. My first question and excuse my ignorance here, but how do you drive with a lockup switch? I guess if I am towing and need lockup in 2nd gear do I just flip the switch and go, or do I have to flip the switch off to let it shift? I figure for the most part the switch will be turned off, my other question would be about drag racing and how to apply the lockup in those situations? I am just trying to get a little back ground, before I get it hooked up and ruin a new transmission.

I'm not an expert , but the sw is for the converter , trans will still shift , you should look into a sw that uses a more automatic function for street driving , it unlocks when your hit the brake .
Do not forget to tell Dave , he'll set you up right .

def. tell dave. then the auto boxes are nice. if you use a manual switch then when "on" the converter will lock from 2nd gear on up to OD. may shift too quick and bog or stall truck if your not flooring it. also shifting in lock up transfers all power to shafts during shifts. if nothing in the driveline breaks its like shifting a stick without a clutch. I use this when drag racing. also use TC lock when slowing down( helps by dragging engine rps down like a stick shift) a nessecity when using an ex. brake. also note : trans will not down shift coming to a stop with manual switch "on" IT WILL STALL ! enjoy!

Dave does know and is sending the switch with the transmission, but said it can be added at anytime. He said the transmission is set up for it either way. I will call him about how to operate it and whether of not to let it shift in lockup.

Thanks for the replies and keep them coming

I insalled a mystery switch on my truck w/ Daves converter 3disk upgraded VB everything else is stock. I spoke w/ dave and Dave and he said I could lock it but w/ what I have or dont have done I should be careful I have been using it all summer for drag purposes and to slow down with. Thing to wach for. if not in the the go pedal hard it will shift quick and bog the motor! If in a drag race hit the switch in 2 gear and hold on! When using to decel leave switch locked @ 60mph(3. 55 gears) shift out of OD while pushing the go accel enough to match rpm or it slams into 3rd. It will never shift into 2 w/ the switch locked unless you do it manual and for me it allways slams into 2nd. instead if you need, unlock it shift into 2 match rpm and lock again. I almost never do this because I dont need to. Hope all this ramble makes sense. But I do like the lock up and I know you will to . Just be responsible w/ it cuz a trans =big $
