Had a load of feed to take to the feeders. Both wheels were spinning as I climbed out of the creek on the slick clay. This was with Michelin MS tires. So far I like it.

That's what I like to hear! My buddy has just bought a 1971 Bronco with a Detroit Locker. Not too bad on the street. I did like the artilce about the new Ox cable locker. It would go good in the front axle.

Okie-Go,

I have been thinking of trying the "No-Slip" by Powertrax when it comes out. Is there any reason that you decided to go with the Lock-right vs. the No-Slip???

I have friends that have the Lock-Right in there trucks and say it is not too street friendly..... how has yours been on the street??

Thanks,

Matt

I will agree that the LockRight is not very street friendly. Mine clicks on turns, gets the hiccups in parking lots, bangs occasionally, and can torque steer the truck if the tire pressures are not equal.

:) It is fantastic off-road and in snow, which I consider to be much more important for my truck than good pavement manners. After 70,000 miles it is still performing flawlessly.

Only complaint: Driving on ice can be tricky. YMMV!

If I keep pressure on the rear-end I am fine. If I push the clutch in on a tight curve it is ok. I do get a bit of a jerk if I just let off the fuel to go around a corner. I just shift after I straighten out instead of in the curve or turn. So far I like it and the good outnumbers the bad so far. As of so far I have noticed no feathering on the tires. It took a little getting used to and the manual told you how to avoid jerking and such.

Okie-Go,

Did you consider the No-slip at all?? Last I checked, they didn't have one out for our trucks yet, but they said it would be soon.

Also, did you install it yourself?? Powertrax says they are not too hard to install, but then again, they make them.

Thanks,

Matt

I did not consider the no-slip. Thought that it wouldn't be much better than the antislip I had. I did consider a Detroit but no go. They had one for the 4. 10 but not the 3. 55. I paid 850. 00 for the locker and labor. Would have been cheaper but they had to put in an open carrier and then the locker. I have the anti slip in a box in the garage I am thinking thinking about selling. When I set out to do this I wanted a true locker,I can't hang getting stuck on wet grass and just one tire spinning.

I won a free Detroit Locker or Truetrac at the 4 Wheel Jamboree in Indy last fall. I've been waiting until I got the truck I wanted before I ordered it.

My new 95 Ram has a factory limited slip which works pretty good, so I don't know if I even want to get the Detroit yet. It has a 3. 54 rearend.

What suggestions can you give me? Does the Detroit require an open carrier before it can be installed?

Thanks,

Blake

The detroit replaces the carrier completely - so open vs. LSD is irrelevant. It does need to be installed by someone familiar with setting up gears though, since the ring gear needs to come out and the bearings have to be swapped over from the old carrier.
