I did pick up a Broughton medium Palma barrel ,. 3075"/. 297", 1-12" twist and finish at 33", last year. Havent set it up on anything, yet. I have a Paramount left hand action that may be the direction I head.

One thing about H-S barrels is that they are made to Mil Spec requirements. They are not lapped. I forget the exact finish from the tooling but if I remember correctly, its about 4 micron. Thats a very fine finish from machine tools and hard to match by hand lapping. I will look up their old spec sheet and verify that number.

Those barrels really last! I've been shootin screamers(pressure marks on the case heads) out of the . 30/338 and after 800 rounds its still extremely accurate, if I do my part and dont get magnumitis:-laf.

One of the other things I do is make cowboy spurs. Just learnin, presently. An outlet for the inner artist and a break from the tight tolerances. I have 3 generations of family to be responsible for. from 11 to 98. Its a mess sometimes. We also homeschool. Sometimes life really gets in the way. But Family is the most important. GregH

My mother collects bits and spurs; her cousin got her into it... . She's been trying to get me to take up engraving, but it's just one more hobby I don't have time for. I think she's got several hundred pairs from just about every major name that's ever been listed..... she's even made friends with many of them. Her cousin is blind, and he got into collecting arrowheads several decades ago, even being invited to the Smithsonian to identify some hard cases. He feels the cuts and textures. Kinda incredible, I think. But spurs are similar with textures and patterns, so I guess it makes sense for him to go that direction. He cowboyed as a young man before the glaucoma got to him. We take care of him from time to time, and it's a blast. Just don't let him drive the fourwheeler... .



What kind of forge do you run? Or do you? I've got an old propane forge I made in highschool for heating leaf springs so I could reset the arch in a hydraulic press or bend eyes in leaves for custom jobs. And I've got an old horseshoe forge I traded for years ago, just a small propane job... . I don't know if you really would call it a forge... .

My friend has a propane horseshoe forge. I havent made a set from one piece, as yet. I know how to do it, just more cost effective to saw out the band and shank and weld 'em together. They'er still hand made. Maybe when I get well known:-laf, I may move to that method. Yes, I've been learnin alot and I know about them hobbies:-laf:-laf!

Rogers? Which one? I know of four off the top of my head. Gene from Golden, CO. Don, I can't remember from where. Bill, Campo, CO. And C. L. Rogers, father in law to Randy Butter, an excellent maker in his own right, IMHO.

Nice Mule deer

Haven't got my Elk tag filled, but got a nice high country Muley 338/378 200gr Accu bond at 3370 on crono. I dont think ill use this bullet again didnt hold together very well. High shoulder shot as usual for me hit bone broke shoulder and neck but didnt go to other shoulder? range was 385 with range finder with my cannon I should not have been able to find slug. Haven't weighed bullet yet but not very much left anyway. The guy that shot his Elk it was with a 30/378 180 TSX at 3360 on crono. at 700 + found bullet on far side shoulder just under the skin great bullet. Going back up in the A. M have to get meat out fast the bear population is in great health and hungry

I think it ends Nov 28 im not sure but the snow is real bad by then and it's hard on my pack mule's to get out of the Bob so we will call it when the snow gets about knee deep. It's colder than a well diggers A by that time also.

I miss my Mule

Man, Mules sends me back about 18 years. Had to sell my Molly Mule back in 1992:{. Couldnt handle the hay bales anymore#@$%!. I sure had some great experiences with that critter. She would pack fresh kill and was gentle with kids. I reckon hay has gone up considerablely since then. I was payin $3. 00 a bale plus extra grain to keep her warm during the winter. I heard that hay is now about $10. 00/bale. If you have your own farm or ranch it wouldnt cost as much, because you are the producer/user.

Our first rifle season for Elk and Deer only lasts 5 days, drawing only. We have other seasons with different dates, as long as several weeks for archery, if I remember correctly GregH

Kiker, If you cant find any through a local farm auction, you may be able to find them at the Stock Show, in Denver, this winter. Lots of traders though. There is also a Western Auction in Loveland, Colorado and a big Western Collectors Show in Denver in the May-June time frame. If you get up this way, P. Oh, yes, I think more than one pair. I've tried to buy some, too, but they've been wayyyyy to high for me. I'd have to check and see, but I think they were Gal-leg spurs... . But I can say, she gave me a pair of "Outlaw" spurs a while back. I don't know who's they are, but they're pretty nice. I wear them for working. Anyone know who's "Outlaw"?

My Dad has a pair of Crockett spurs that he bought off his cousin in '48 or 49. His cousin got them for high school graduation from his parents, but he went on to be a motorcycle police officer in Amarillo and didn't need them for his "iron horse".

KIKER, Thats a real find. Some Crockett Spurs are quite valuable. GregH
