My stocker is slipping pretty bad now that ive had the edge on it for a week. I know everyone has there pereferences on which companyto buy from. But i dont even know where to start looking.

My goal for the truck is to hit 500-550hp. I tow up to 12k with it occasionally, i'll be joining my buddies at the county fair truck pulls, but mostly i tow light(around 4000lbs) or drive empty so what do I all need in the transmission?

I should have about $4500 to spend on one soon. Is that enough for all the stuff I need?

I need help. theres just too many options to figure out and i dont know who/what company will be honest about my needs.

call a reputable shop such as : DTT, Suncoast, ATS, Goerend. stay clear of cheepos !! these autos are expensive , but that said, do it once and right!

Just to give you an idea of what i'm spending: I bought all Suncoast parts and have a good shop rebuilding it for a pretty good deal, I am removing and installing the trany my self.

I've spent about $3100 for a valve body, billet input shaft (very recommended for 400HP+), extreme duty rebuild kit, and 3-Disc converter. The shop is rebuilding it for $500. This is not including the cost of transmission fluid and other misc stuff that will probably add up to another $100-$200.

I think i've seen the whole transmission assembly for $3,200 to $4,500, but that still doesn't include shipping, fluids and R&R from a shop if you have them do it.

I went with Suncoast because a local dealer gave me a great price and I had done research for about 4-5 months and it seemed like Suncoast, DTT, and Goerend where the tranys that most people used here. They all seem to be around the same price give or take some depending on what goodies you get. All three have had good post and bad posts about them. I would look around a bit and see if one of the three starts to float you boat...

One of the best ways to get a feel for a Company is to talk with them over the phone and let them try to sell you on their trany, dont choose till you've heard all three companies.

Good luck!

It's always hard to take the bite on all the transmission parts, but it is best to do it right the first time. If you're considering DTT plan on 5-6k for all the billets and such. You will want at least a billet input and output shaft for that power and pulling. No need to waste the money on an intermediate shaft right now unless you plan on lots more power(this always happens) I have been very pleased with my setup and I would recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade. It's the best mod to date for my truck. Nice firm shifts and lets you really "feel" the power going to the ground. It's easy to spend 5k on a well built transmission b/c it's true: you get what you pay for. Good luck on the choice:)

My transmission preference is Goerands because he is all Ive ever used. Mostly because Im only 30 minutes away from him and he has ALWAYS addressed my concerns and needs. Dave is a great guy to deal with and he wont BS you to death. Our Triple D shops have sold and installed MANY of his trannies and we have had no complaints whatsoever. Your about 3 and a half hours from Goerands so if I was in your spot he would be my choice. He can be hard to get ahold of but if you leave your name and number he will call back. Be sure to tell him Triple D referred you and he will take good care of you. If he doesnt have time for an install you are welcome to come by my place for an install also. I always take care of TDR members and get them in right away. Just call Dave and tell him your budget and what you are gonna be doing with it and he will have it built before you show up. Hope this helps, Chris

Call or visit Goerend Transmission web site. Dave can build you a transmission to your needs. I just had my transmission replaced by them last month with a triple-disc converter which will be good for 400+ hp and a 100K warranty. I only pull a 8500# 5th wheel in the summer. I have 65k miles on my trk and was on my second stock transmission that was starting to sound like yours when pulling. I made an appointment with them and drove to IA and had them install it for $3250. 00 for transmission and TC and $400. 00 to install, I had my own oil. They also put me and wife up for a night in a spare house they have next to the shop. Great people to do buisness with! I noticed an improvement in my fuel milage on the return trip home. Can't wait until 6/9 when I make my first pull trip with it. Good luck in your search, Bob

Up until a month ago, I would have also said Dave Goerand. However, my right hand man just bought one. shifts fine, but lockup is sloppy and jerky. We're not very impressed at all. I'd look somewhere else.

Andy have you talked to Dave about your sloppy lockup? Did he buy a complete transmission? I would highly suggest you talk to Dave about this. Please post back the results.

I have had excellent luck with Dave G. tough to get a hold of but stands behind his work.

AndyMan, call Dave about this problem, I know he stands behind his product 100% especially if it was a complete new transmission. My transmission is running great! My trk never ran this good. Lock-up is right on.
Bob

Yeah, I'll follow up with this thread if/when we get it fixed. It was a complete rebuild and converter. To the tune of $4500 (not including install). It still hunts between 3rd and 4th... and lock-up is sloppy. I don't want to hijaack this thread with my problems, so I'll PM you guys results, or you can e-mail me.

Florida has a DTT shop Florida Performance Diesel 786-543-9176 talk to Richard. I think the shop is down in the Miami area or there abouts.

My preference see sig

I'm getting DTT Parts within the next few weeks... just to give an ideal on what i paid...

My truck has 10k miles, so no rebuild, just good parts to hold approx 450hp...

Torque Converter, Valve Body, Billet Input, Flex Plate, 2nd Gear Stuff, 3rd Gear Stuff, and some misc stuff... . shipped / installed approx $4500

Like said above, go with one of the big boys... . and ensure you get an installer that's recommended and close by... .

I'll have to call and talk with Dave at Goerends. Does anybody know if theres a DTT shop in wisconsin?? I have to spend money very wisely, I have very little to spread around. I need to find the best bang for my buck.

VHolloway, Suncoast is in Ft. Walton Beach, FL.

strehl, $4500 won't quite cut it for what you are planning. At that power you will need a laminated flexplate, billet input shaft, and if your truck is 4x4, a billet intermediate and output shaft as well. I just did mine with the flexpalte and billet input, ran me $5300. 00 just for the transmission, tc, flexplate, billet input and new pan. You can go with a rebuild kit and the parts and have a local shop do the wiork, will save a little money.

I just bought the truck as a toy... . no to minimal towing, just like to go fast and have always had a dodge truck!..... working out good so far, just dont think a stick would be the correct approach for my situation.

Strehl, when I was researching transmissions I called DTT, I belive they are in Canada. The person I talked to said they didn't have a dealer in WI. Sun Coast did and so did ATS. I'am also from WI, up north and I'am going to be in Menomonee Falls this week end. If you would like to see and feel a Goerend Transmission send me an E-Mail.
