THESE TRUCK COULD USE A BIGGER ALTERNATOR WHEN THE GRID HEATER CYCLES. they need to have a 200 amp stock on the truck

220 amp would fit the bill nicely but I like over kill

thanks

I was looking at that page a couple of days ago for the same thing. Their web site is a bit lacking. IT would be nice to have some real info on it... amps... rpm... etc.

I bought one of their starters years ago for my 225v6 in my Willys rock crawler project. That thing is a small... but packs a punch... customer service was lacking... took forever to get some questions answered... but that particular product was worth it.

I will try to call them and get some info since I am in need of an alternator as well.

I just installed a PA Performance 200 amp alt. on my truck. I'm really happy with it. It puts out 125 amps at idle. I think my stock 136 amp alt. put out 56 amps at idle. My head lights use to dim when the grid heaters cycled, now you hardly notice anything when the grid heaters cycle. I don't know how to attach their web address but just Google "PA Performance". I think they are worth checking out.
Regards, Mike.

MY FUEL PUMP DROPS OFF A BIT WHEN THE GRID HEATERS KICK ON.

I don't like that. but 125 amps at idle may do the trick thanks

Just have your stock stator rewound. A good rebuild shop can have it sent to a rewinder to increase output. My 136 Bosch now puts out 204 with a 3 wire stator winding. Total cost $75 with new brush holder.

Just take the stator to a good starter/alternator shop and have them send it to a rewinder and have a 3 wire winding installed instead of the stock 2 wire winding. 3 wire winding fits in the stock stator case with ease and increases output by 50 %, 136 verses 204.

Good luck

I remember some older threads on this. One member here had a ton of electrical accessories on his plow truck and ended up installing a large case Leece Neville 140 amp alternator. It's the type normally used on class 8 trucks. He found much better output as well as cooler operation.

One interesting thing he pointed out which I haven't seen mentioned here, is that the stock fusible links are only rated at 120 amps, and if you start pulling too much power from that nifty new high-output alternator, you'll blow the links. I don't remember how he said he dealt with his. One thing I do remember--he was very dissatisfied with the Mean Green ones.

Anyhow, it might be worth doing some searches here.

Mike

I will second on the PA Performance 200amp alternator. Been running it for a year now and it's worked great. Also, no more TC lock/unlock and no more noise filter installed either.

I never meant to say the Mean Green is the be all end all just a source. I have heard some have had problems with them but seemed more positive than negative. For sure they cost a lot of $'s!!! I have no personal experience so I cannot positively say one way or the other on them. I do see how something will have to be done about the fuse-able link and maybe increase in wire size as well. Have not studied this enough to answer intelligently.

where do fire rescue get there alternators from. in palm beach county they do run some dodge trucks I may check with palm beach county moter pull. and we have a palm beach county thrift store as well so they may be of some help

I work on Emergency Vehicles and we like to use Niehoff Brushless alternators. C. E. Niehoff Co. - Brushless Alternators - Commercial - Military - Mining - Construction
Some equipment has the Leece Neville 270 amp units on them. They are terrible. They do not live long, sometimes you are lucky to get 6 months of service out of them. I don't know if Niehoff makes a compatible alternator, but it would be more worth it to check them out than Leece Neville. Plus the Niehoffs are usually higher output.
