Hey guys if everything goes right tomorrow I should have my FASS II waiting for me when I get home from work...

I was thinking up about breaking the installation up into 2 nights, but was wondering if it can be done in a few hours?

I have an extended cab with a short box, so I know installation is going to be a little tougher... I know I read somewhere that I should use a 90-degree fitting for the one fuel line to prevent it from kinking in the future... I was wondering what size and if this would be the only additional fitting I would need? Also is there any special way to route the line to the engine? Do you just zip tie it to the original line or attach it some other way? And finally would taking the rear wheel fender out give me a little more access to the top of the tank...

Any other tips/ideas would be greatly appreciated as well... Thanks...

I installed mine in about an hour and a half on my back in the dirt in 25 degree weather (dieselpp says it takes 45 minutes to install, I assume this is in a shop with a lift). If you have a garage and it's not too cold, you could probably do it in an hour. The blue hose gets pretty stiff in the cold which makes it difficult to push on to the fittings (even with oil). I heated the hose with a hair dryer and it was still hard to get the hose to seat all the way down on the fittings. You are correct about needing a 90 degree fitting on the line coming from the FASS going to the engine. It is tight and almost kinks the hose. I installed it with the fittings provided and it works just fine. I just had to put the hose on the fitting and then screw the fitting into the pump (use lots of oil). Access to the top of the fuel tank is tight but you can stick your head up there before you start and see what you're up against. I don't think taking the wheel well apart will help. I ran the lines (hose and wires) directly from the pump to the top of the frame and then zip tied to the old fuel lines. Since you have a short bed, you will have about two feet of extra wiring harness which I just coiled and zip tied next to the battery for now. Disconnecting the wire from the stock lift pump is also a trick because it is buried below and behind the filter canister. A double jointed midget could help you here. The instructions are well written and have good pictures and if you follow them closely, you will not have any problems. You will be happy with the performance of this pump. It's sweet. Good luck.

get the 90* fitting at home depot. 1/2" pipe thread 90* street elbow if I remember right. $1. 05 including tax. the short beds are tight and I recommend putting the elbow on.

you can get to the tank without dropping it or raising the bed. you will swear a lot and bleed a little, but you will manage. I'm 6'4" and i made it under there.

other than that, its simple. plus with the short bed, you have the hose left over to do the line from the fuel filter to the VP44 next. just get the fittings you need from summit.

Jason,

Do you know the part numbers for the fittings from summit? I'm about to do this, Fass install, and have the s/b so your idea of using the excess fuel line is great.

TIA,

Casey

Casey,

I don't know the part numbers. I saw what I needed when I looked in the summit mag the other night. I figured I would need the two thread to -6 fittings to go into the pump and filter housing and two 90* -6 push lock fittings for the hose. That should be it. But, I need to get my fuel pressure gauge spliced in there somewhere so I'll buy a tee also.

I have seen a thread about the parts needed to make the maxflow kit. It had part numbers from summit so try a search for that thread.

Well, I checked out summit online and here is what i am going to order.

all aeroquip fittings

summit # AER-FBM2246 - 12 mm x 1. 5 male to -6 an fitting. need two, one for the injection pump inlet and one for the fuel filter housing outlet (I assume this is the right thread for the filter housing) about $9. 95 each. or, another thread suggests AER-FBM2116 12 mm x 1. 5 male to -6 weber adapter. it is $9. 50 from summit.

summit # AER-FBM1532 - 90* -6 female to push lock fitting to get the lines heading toward each other. $13. 95 each

I still need some type of tee to get my fuel press. gauge plumbed in, but haven't found what I want yet.

use these part numbers at your own risk. i haven't even placed my order yet.

KVaughn,

My third stock LP is on it's way out and I'm exploring my options. I've already purchased a Carter pusher pump, but am open to other ideas. Do you have any photos of the FASS II install?

Thanks

Jason,

Thanks for the info, did some researching myself, looks like you got the goods figured out. I placed my order with Summit just a few minutes ago.

Take care,

Casey

Casey, I placed my order earlier today also.

I picked up a fuel pressure adapter too. I don't have the p/n handy, but its in the aeroquip section and it has -6 male to -6 female with a 1/8" npt port in it. I think the total for all fittings was about $65.

I am going to try to install these on Saturday and I'll post what my new pressures are.

Later,

Jason

I still haven't figured out how to shrink the file size of my photos (they are too big to post here). I do have good picture of the pump installed. Post your e-mail address and I will send you the picture. Anybody who knows how to make photo files small enough to fit here feel free to let me know. :)

Steve,

Yes it is a fuel pump, that is mounted back by the fuel tank that is pumbed to the oem fuel filter canister. The first FASS has it's own set of filters and by passes the oem fuel filter canister. If you have the time, do a seach on FASS or AirDog or Rasp. All aftermarket fuel pumps, first two are electrical, Rasp is mechanical using the oem filter canister with the oem lift pump remaining as a backup up. Lots of reading on this subject.

Take care,

Casey

Thank you I did alot of reading already but found nothing but this thread on the fass II. I have ordered a fass one and shoud be getting as soon as the get off of back order. I have a BD pump now and the stock lift pump but think the 3rd lift pump if on the way out. So I may be interested in this item. I was not sure if it included the air seperator or jsut the pump. Why other then money not get the air and filter seperation version. ???

What is the new FASS pump delivering for pressure?

I'm not sure, I will let you know next week when I get my truck back with the new gauges. Based on some other threads, it looks like you can get anywhere from 9 to 20 PSI depending on whether you have the new spring that DPP is giving away and whether you upgrade the line from the filter canister to the VP to the 3/8 hose. It sounds like 9 or 10 PSI on a 3/8 line will give plenty of volume to feed a 400HP truck??

Mine idles around 11 or 12 psi. I don't have the heavy spring. I think changing the fuel line all the way to the VP44 will make a difference. My fittings are due in on Tuesday. I'll post my pressures after i get them installed.
