I didn't realize that Diesel Dynamics also offers a 4" exhaust system until reading another post here today. I was all set to order either the JRE or Jardine systems next week, but thought I'd ask you all for your opions. In the other post I mention, someone said they liked the DD's sound better than his previous JRE 4" exhaust. I will soon have DD Stage 3 injectors and their True Torque Power Module also #ad

Thanks,
Tom

Had a 4" JRE installed at Jannetty in October, now have about 20k miles on system with no problems. (rattles, clunks or bangs)
Would go same route if I had to do it again. Good luck, what ever choice you make, you'll be hapy with the 4".

DD has spent a lot of time optimizing pipe configurations and muffler placement to minimize "droning" and annoying harmonics during highway cruising.

I have this exhaust and I can tell you that it is a great system and I would recommend it highly. It was really easy to install and it sounds great. Of course it sounds even better now that the muffler has gone missing.

I'll be ordering the DD exhaust system hopefully this week. I decided on it over the Jardine because of the better muffler and anti-droning qualities. Plus, the price with the TDR discount makes it only slightly more expensive than the Jardine on the GP page.

I sent an email to DD asking if they sell their 4" exhaust without the muffler, as I really think I'd prefer straight piped (I love hearing my Cummins working hard #ad
), and Keith from DD replied and said "we've never installed our 4" exhsust as a straight system, but I guess it could be done. You should have enough straight pipe to make it exit at the stock location. "

Does anyone know if indeed their kit comes with enough 4" pipe to be able to make it exit at the factory location without the muffler?

Thanks,
Tom

I too am considering a 4" system at the moment. Currently, I'm leaning toward the DD. Like Joe D. said, they supposedly have spent alot of time eliminating the annoying drone of the exhaust. Does anybody know if this is true compared to a Jardine or JRE system?

It is a tuff decision. I think Jardine, JRE, and DD make a good exhaust. I wish I could hear, in person, each of these exhaust on a truck, maybe that would make my decision easier.

I would like to try a straight pipe before I put a muffler on. If the DD kit comes with enough pipe to do this, this might be the kit for me. Anybody know for sure?

I have the DD exhaust and love it. I don't know why you would want to install it with out the muffler... . the one supplied is fantastic. . it is esenttailly a straight through. . you can see right through it I mean. The system sounds great.

JR, how is the DD exhaust as far as the dreaded exhaust drone and resonance that some have?

Sam - I have to honnest, it has a little drone but I have nothing to compare it to since this is the first diesel I have ever owned. That being said, I have asked everyone who has ridden in my truck if it botherd them, and they all yelled "slow down your freaking me out", no they all said it was great and it did not bother them. I take that back, my 85 year old grandmother was not impressed with it, but she likes oldsmobiles.
I am very happy with this system and would purchase it again in a heart beat.

I just ordered the jardean 4" this morning,I guess I am tring to support WYO first,Jerry lives in Dubois which is 60 miles from me,his son works on a ranch 15 miles from me and he will bring my new 4" with him when he comes back from weekend at Jerrys,I cant hardly wait #ad

JR2 - As far as the drone... are your pipes clamped together or welded? I am getting ready to purchase the DD exhause, but I want my pipes welded together... just cause I have some friends that have clamped theirs together and they all seem to have a drone.

Will welding the pipes prevent the pipes from having a drone??

Thanks

Kev

When i got my system i was thinking of trying it without the muffler but the kit was about a foot short on pipe. That's ok,if you look at the muffler it's 4" straight through. Plus i like my neighbors(5 AM start up)As for the drone, normal speeds 65-75 it's ok,much faster and under some load there is some, after 22,2300 rpm but it's tolerable. I LIKE IT. #ad

Guys with the DD exhaust: What brand is the muffler? How long?

how does it exit? With the tailpipe horizontal like the 12-valve trucks or aimed down & back, like the Jardine?

How much was shipping?

BLKDEMON, do you have DD's downpipe for your HX40? Is it mandrel bent, and did it cost another $150 or so for the system with the HX40 downpipe?

said the single best option he added to his chipped increased 400HP Ford was a 4" exhaust system. It lowered his EGT's and added quite a bit of power(15HP +) for towing his 5th wheel. I told him of my 3500's lack of power and the weakness of our transmission. He use to have love his 3500 RAM, but the company went to Ford's because of the 4-door option. Dodge is really losing because of idiotic marketing!

I looked at the DD exhaust today. The exit seemed horizontal but check with them to be sure. The muffler was the Walker 4" that I prefer and use on my Ram ("Sickly"). They also have a very nice smaller version of a 4" muffler, smaller OD, shorter can, still perforated 4" inside pipe for zero restriction, shorter than the Walker. The small one can be used as a resonator if desired, in front of the Walker. The pipes have smooth mandrel bends, not too tight a radius for minimal turbulence or restriction.
