My Dodge tow mirrors have become quite loose at the point where they pivot and swing away ( by the door) has anyone come up with a fix for this? I'm thinking of removing the snap ring and adding some sort of shim to take up the slack. Any input is welcome , thanks guys

I think there is some sort of spring in that part of the mirror, someone who did the manual to auto mirror swap should be able to tell you exactly how the inners work, and possibly why it's loose now.

RDHamill,

If your 01 mirrors are the same as my 96------

Then take the mirrors off the door. The plate inside holds against the tube to keep them steady. Sometimes the screws are loose, other times they need a pad of something to fill the extra space.

My screws were only loose on both sides.

I was under the impression that these flip up tow mirrors came out in 01, so not likely to be like the '96.

Someone must have had them apart by now ;)

Do a search under tow mirror, or tow mirror swap, something like that, there should be a ton of threads about the procedure, maybe even some pictures so you can see what the insides look like and maybe even take yours apart. I remember something about a big spring in the pivot, so if yours is just freely moving I would think it has something to do with that. I installed the newer tow mirrors like yours about 3 years ago, I never did the manual to auto mirror swap but I did flip the glass in the tow mirrors, meaning my convexes are in the lower corners instead of the upper corners, I just prefered them in that position.
