RDHamill,

Thanks for the suggestion, however I did not remove the pitman arm. I guess there was just that much play in the steering box?

I didn't think that you would need to, but maybe you wanted to paint it or something ???? must just be the amount of freeplay.

I had the same thing last time I changed OE track bars, the replacment must have been a different length as it set the wheels of a bit. Either way the OE bars are a POS if you ask me, my current one is only a month old and is loose again.

Off it comes and on goes Luke's link.

Maybe I Just don't want to dig through 27 pages of posts, but are there any pictures that I might be able to take a look at before I order one?

I think I too will be ordering one of these in the next week.

Thanks.

Minute Mount Compatible?

I just finished a steering box sector shaft bearing and bushing replacement. Steering is better but still a white knuckle adventure towing in certain road conditions. It it time for a change... . need to order one this week

Has anyone installed the DSS along with a Fisher Minute Mount plow frame kit? Any mods necessary?

I sent my check in about 3 - 4 week ago, received the DSS yesterday. It will be going on the truck tonight if I have the time.

I don't have any problems with my steering at the moment, but I also didn't have any problems with the truck getting me to work and back home either before I added DD 3's, an HX40, a Comp box... ... :D:D:D

I too picked up my DSS yesterday.

I have no steering problems either I am do it as preventative maintenance and its cheap insurance

Nice quality product :)

I've had mine on for about 4 months. Great product, really stiffen up the front of the truck. Adds another cross member at the same time supporting the pitman arm. I like it. :)

Well, I got the thing successfully installed tonight amidst the rain  Went for a test ride on the windiest road near my place. As I kind of expected, I didn't notice any noticeable difference, but as I said above, I had not been having any front end problems. Just more insurance against future problems :D

Jeez, Merrick - where ya been? This is only the longest thread in the history of the TDR. :p :p ;)

That's what I was thinking! I think I was very busy with workl when this thread was about. Of course, I didn't have a 4x4 either.

OK, so the longest thread in TDR has been dead for a while now. I've been doing some reading about the DSS and will prob order one soon (I have 97,000 miles on all original front end parts). It's starting to get a little wild on the wonderful Washington freeways:eek: It's been almost a year that some of you guys have been running with the DSS, how about a long term progress report. TIA.

This is being ordered...

My 99RAM has been DOA since thanksgiving. The bill is now over $1900 and should be 3K but for the vacuum pump I just pulled from a spare engine.

My big bill is due to a leaking power steering gear box that took out the steering pump which took out the vacuum pump. My truck operates in a real rough environment which must have contributed to the leak from the gear box shaft. Also that power steering pump howled like crazy every winter even before the gear box started to leak.

When the green monster is back on the road this gear box brace is a must!

That vacuum pump is a real expensive part!!

Darin Tessier FIX

/Darin Tessier's fix is well-made, cheap as dirt for what you get, does the same thing as that expensive California devise, and with a little paint can look just as good. and he's right! I can testify to a delay in his shipment to me (In wisconsin). I e-mailed him in a paranoid mood. And I got the straight goods from him. He had shipped the package, and it evidently got stopped at the border: Increased security (that's a lot of metal for their detectors to react to), and we're paying for it if we're taxpayers. The border has cranked down about 10 notches (I grew up just south of the Canadian-+US border in NE Minnesota on Lake Superior). The border has loosened and tightened in cycles for years. It's always a surprise when it does crank down cuz no one thinks of it otherwise.

I noticed a little difference, but I think maybe a torgeson (sp?) steering shaft maybe next on my list. I've had the front Hub bearings replaced, and everythings tightd; bilsteins have a few miles, but should be all right, and and steerings tight, but maybe i should replace all that. It didn't seem to wander too much, but the tracking (all though mediocre,) was better than it is now.

I'm still very happy about the steering fix Darin Tessier fixed up, it took a little while to get it, but the wait was worth it. . .
