On my pickup, it is loose where the steering shaft goes into the joint before the steering box. When you fix that, what all do you have to replace?

That joint aaembly is N/A from Dodge now.

About the only option is one of those over priced U-Joint based steering shafts.

Overpriced? :p Well I don't know about that... ..... I put my Borgeson on 4 maybe 5 steering boxes ago. Whenever I go wheeling very hard, I end up ruining the steering gear box. Broke two plates too, but I've only put on one Borgeson.

Is you steering box leaking? Is it loose too? I'd carefully check the plate behind the box, they are prone to cracking, and Dodge has changed part numbers on that about 10 times at least. New ones are cheep. You can also adjust the top of the box to tighten it up internally. Don't do that until you get the shaft tight.

Bring your new ride down here Terry, and we'll try and make it right. ;)

On my last truck I replaced that joint three times at a cost of around $60. 00 a pop from the dealer. The fourth time I replaced it with the Borgesen and never worried about it ever again. If you do the math it's $60. 00 x 3 = $180. 00 plus tax. The Borgesen is around $200. 00. For the extra $20. 00 I wished I had done it right the first time.

You will wind up going with the Borgsen anyway. The little kit to rebuild is cheap and will work for light duty. Or to trade off the truck. I would go with the Borgsen. I have one truck that I rebuilt the box and I rigged a boot over all of it so that the dirt and water would not get into the joint and it is doing fine. If Dodge had put the splash guard over that assembly, it probably would never give trouble.

Tell me about it. I don't know if I could get the lines off the box if I wanted to. My brake master cylinder looks about the same though.

The ramcharger central site explains the situation completely. I would add that I know of one guy who spent 1800 dollars on his front end and still had a problem. Traded his truck off and he never knew that his problem was a 10 buck fix. Most front end alignment shops either don't know about this Dodge problem or don't care. The guy I use is VERY good but he never mentioned the coupler. I stumbled onto my problem.
