Cool,followed diagnostic tree and found problem!!:eek: wish over the years more TECHS would have done that instead of *****ing BUT I DON"T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS.
 
Well thats a little premature to say. I think its the first one posted. Now if thats causing the lope during warmup and at certain temps who knows. Time will tell.
 
Most techs don't mind troubleshooting when they are being paid for it, but when DC refuse to pay or makes it such a headache to get paid then, they are forced to take shortcuts or put their needs of a paycheck ahead of troubleshooting to make the customer happy. Flat rate forces techs to be hacks or use the shotgun troubleshooting approach. If DC really cared what the customers thought they would demand that the flat rate system be done away with and techs hired and paid upon their merits, instead of how many trans or radiator flushes they can sell in a day. My truck got fixed because the Tech got paid for all his time, and he did not have to do any of it for free (an unusual circumstance at DC). Trust me I know!
 
I found it wasn't the FACTORY who didn't want to pay but usually a LAZY service manager to lazy to write it up correctly and pusue it. It then shafts the tech,Dealer owner and service writer etc. I quit a place (was writing service)because of that bull. As a service manager if it was legit and documented I very rarely had a problem collecting my money. Wasn't there 10 hour days with the headache that was involved to fix them for FREE for ANYBODY. The Factory was MY BEST customer.
 
In order to document it properly the manager would have to walk around with you and video tape your ordeal, and the reps would probably still deny the claim. They do it for one of two, or probably a combination of the these two reasons 1. they have no idea of what it takes to troubleshoot and repair i. e. never have worked on a car and/or 2. they are trying to save more money for the 22 board members that received a 55 million dollar raise split 22 ways. (Oakland Press March issue 2003). Facts are facts.
 
I never had to go threw that. The tech has to use the time clock correctly and document what when were and how. I had VERY few denied claims on Nissan,Gm,Chrysler. we had 38 techs in the D. C. dealer. Had a few hundred dollars a moth if that denied. Caddy was the worst or the Caddy rep was. I called his supervisor and REPORTED him and that crap went away. Didn't care if they LIKED me. Just pay for the repair. DOCUMENTATION!!!
 
Well, I'm glad you've had good luck with DC, however I haven't had that experience. We just finished a warranty audit and they are even trying to deny claims where we installed a Mopar Trans and it failed 10k later, saying that we didn't install the proper torque converter, even though it came with the trans. The reason most techs won't troubleshoot is lack of incentive. Why would you look at a car for 1 hour when the most you'll get out of it is 1/2 hour, (after fighting and documenting) when you could be doing a cash jog for 40% more than a warranty job pays.
 
I think money (or lack of it) is the main reason that these guys are getting the "It's normal" excuse. There's simply no fiscal reason to investigate further. As much as I enjoy working on these trucks, I (and my colleagues), still have bills to pay and futures to save for.

Unless its changed in two years I never ran into that problem. Sure sometimes Rep had to sign off because of glitch's such as torque converter dosent match and it came with trans. Or offer assistance on how to push it threw again but for the most part we collected our money and techs got paid within reason. Didn't pay for a learning experience or goofing around but if it was needed and documented it got paid and Dealer got paid. I had a dealer one time tell a Nissan rep to cut the crap out(B. S)about claims and advance money and it did.

Thats wierd, some one back a few pages took off their EZ and it had no effect on idle...



Could it be that we are dealing with two different problems, but with the same symptom? (loping idle)



this is really starting to mess with me, the other night i was down shifting coming to a stop off the highway, and when I put the clutch in for the final stop, the engine went down to 500 RPMs and stumbled a bit , then recovered, hmmm... .
 
mine was lopeing also. aron at edge said pull box, i did and lope gone. few days later reinstalled box ran great. next day lope came back. i will just leave it off except when i need to tow. i think box has some problems just now starting to show up as everyone started to go bad at about same time frame.

My '03 starting loping at idle just in the last few days, after the weather got cool. 40's or so. Coincidentley, the dealer just changed the fuel filter at 10k miles.



So... yesterday while the truck was sitting and idling (with a lope)to warm up, the idle suddenly jumped up a couple of hundred RPMs. I ran over and tapped the throttle pedal, and it went back to normal.



Only mods so far are 4" exhaust and AFE air filter. No electronics, yet.



Not a big problem, just a bit aggravating on a new rig.
 
It will jump to fast idle automatically below certain temps. Its suppose to! Mine was not smooth running during warm up and after it got colder is ok. Has always idled smooth at normal operating temps. Wish I could idle mine near the 900 to 1000 rpm area. I like it better,I assume idle is non adjust now??What controls idle,any one got a clue?

It's just doing what it's supposed to do. Normal, but it sure tets your attention the first time it does it.

Tomeygun, sounds like you have the same problem I have. It will drive you nuts. It is very inconsitant. Look at my last post on my "truck dies" thread.



DC's solution was to replace the injector pump. There reason was that there is a preasure sensor in the pump that is giving incorrect readings. The pump is not servicable so they are replacing it. This sounds like the same thing that Troll got.



The last post on my thread I detail some of the symptoms that my truck is having.



Oh yeah. The pump is on national backorder. I am still waiting for one and the truck still has a mind of its own. On the days that you hear the lope and in my case what sounds like pilot injection turning off for a second, I know I will have problems. When you hear this more than likely the truck will start droping to 500rpm and surging to 1000rpm sometime during the day.



Good luck with it. It took 4 trips to the dealer over a several month period to get to this point. At least the dealer didn't give up on it and call it normal.
