* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Plan on slippery road conditions. In
addition, significant reductions in visibility are likely.
Winds gusting as high as 35 mph will cause widespread blowing
and drifting snow.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow and blowing snow means periods
of snow and blowing snow will cause primarily travel
difficulties. Expect snow covered roads and limited visibilities,
and use caution while driving. The latest road conditions for

It was 13 here last night with 40 mph gusts. The wind took the top out of a 75ft pine in front of my land roadside, which in turn took out the power. The close breaker didn’t open so power was out for 5 miles east of here plus everyone up line from me. Out for 6 hrs. My neighbors love me.

You girls and your winter stories......it’s unseasonably warm here in Alaska at 14 above zero.....got a little snow last week and waiting for more. I’ve only had to twice so far this winter and that’s not normal.

When I was at Loring I called my brother who was stationed at Eielson AFB outside of Fairbanks. We discussed the two winters. He told me there was no comparison as I definately got the ****ty end of the stick. The 30 minute phone call at the time set me back $350ish dollars and that was the last time we spoke to each other until he was back in the lower 48.

Seth discovered that as of yesterday the Diesel Fuel in the area has not been cut and/or converted to winter blend. I'm not sure as to why but stuff gelling up already.....they always in the past had it cut by Nov 1st, then increase the mix as the temps drop...

i believe Irving had a refinery fire over in St John, NB this summer..that may be affecting the supply....

Some distributors are custom crafting the mix by adding Kerosene if a customer has a storage tank which is ok as long as the Kerosene is not dyed....

The US definitely has some lax regulations when it comes to winterized fuel. Strange given how regulated every other aspect of everything diesel is. Big brother "cares" about pollution so very much, wether or not you safely get to your destination in the dead of winter, not so much
I forget the exact verbage but there is a recommendation from ASTM on cloud point, something like no more than 6*C above the 3 coldest AVERAGE days of that month for the area receiving the fuel. So all it takes is a cold snap or some unseasonably cold weather at the beginning or end of the winter for bad things to happen. Or someone to get the mix wrong. or just forget all together. I get fuel delivered to the house and always dose the tank prior to getting it filled...you just don't know what exactly your getting.

Right now we will be under a winter storm warning starting around 3:00 PM till 9:00AM Monday. Our area is expected to receive between 5 and 10" of snow with some area except to get higher amounts. What really gets me is how all of the weather stations are making so, much of a big deal out of this. In fact O'HARE Airport has already starting to cancel fights out of the airport today. I believe 100 were canceled already with more to come.

Here in ne SC, when there is a chance of snow, all the bread and milk disappears (just like when a hurricane is 3 days away) and then the local tv stations speak a word for every flake that falls. They have to interview the emergency preparedness people and the highway patrolmen (older ones) or the troopers, as the younger ones prefer to be called. It is either take some Pepto or hit the mute button when they do their same old speil. Jhenderson told it right. I better move on. I need to go cut some grass. I think Jack is coming tomorrow night. 20mph or less, I do not envy you guys one bit. When we were in Minot last year I had to turn my brain back 40ish years driving in the snow and the worst part ice. There's just something about turning the wheel and still going in the same direction, sometimes with an unmovable object getting closer and being helpless.

Five plowable storms so far and it's not even December yet......over $500.00 spent by our Road Association for plowing so far...

Each storm has been treacherous, very slippery....so I ordered a set of these for both Hoopty Duex and the wifes van. The van has snow tires but not cutting it this year without fresh studs.....

She has been running the Yukon because the lake roads have been so bad...

The Nokian Nordman 7 come all studded right from beautiful Finland......probably will trash mine in a season but it's cheaper than doing a ditch dive into a pole or worse yet an oncoming car. Had two fatals in the state yesterday and one Sunday due to vehicles sliding across the center line and hitting another head on....

Looks like the lake effect guy's are getting pounded. Two new storms moving in from the Pacific so there is plenty more to come. Heck, they are saying Phoenix is gonna get rain Thursday and Monday. Presently 50 degrees, might bit chilly .
