While he may state that, you might "see" it, and catch it, but I don't think that is very clear. I didn't write the guidelines I can only interpret them, and it clearly says vendors will identify themselves in some way or another (easiest is user name). No Evan is not "a" vendor but he is employed by one. Thats the way "I" interpret the guidelines. I don't know the whole calalender of events that lead to this, I just said something about it in the most recent post is all.

Does that explain "my" position anybetter?

Thanks

OK so Evan is an employee of a vendor who sells products that we all use. He answered a question to help a fellow TDR member save some money. He was not advertising that product for his employer. Hopefully he is not truly banned from the TDR for good. I think many people will agree with me, that it is nice having someone like Evan who works on our trucks at our service for questions or advice. We need people like him, that's what makes this site so useful. Reporting him for his last reply to a good question, is childish in my eyes. It's time to grow up and enjoy the site, instead of trying to get someone kicked off.

How do you figure he wasn't advertising for the PowerShop?? While maybe not "directly" but indirectly yes he was. There have been more then one time when this type of thing happend. Last time post was deleted (by Evan I assume) because I don't know of any moderators doing it.

"We" the moderators let a few small things slip by from time to time so that basically the "members" can "Rule" themselves... which generally works. Just because things "Slip" by doesn't mean they go unnoticed.

Is he banned at this time ... yes. Is it permanent? I don't know... its not upto me. Yes there are times when his electrical experience has come in handy, but at the same time there have been "questionable" posts. Even if I wasn't a moderator I would still say the same thing if asked. I am not taking a side here, just trying to interpret and apply the guidelines as intended by the author of them.

Let the members decide... put it to a vote. I still haven't seen anything signficant enough to warrant banning Evan. Personally, I see this as the TDR staff flexing it's muscles and "protecting" it's members from the "evils" of Evan. I think we're all big boys here, we can watch out for ourselves, and this whole thing sounds like a bunch of crap. Rob, I agree with the other member who advised letting the moderators do their jobs. For some reason, this has become a personal issue for you. Moderators, I think you should let the members decide...

Personally, regardless of the situation going on now,in the future, since we all pay to belong to this site, we all should be able to say what WE as paying members want. I know there has to be rules, just like we pay taxes in the real world but still have to pay fines if we break the law.

I am all for guidelines for this site, and i do think it is a good thing that dealers have to disclose that they are in fact, just that, so there is no conflict of interest.

I dont want to be told that say: The Edge EZ is the best, by an Edge dealer. Or no matter what my problem with my Rams power is "Easily cureable with an Edge product, which by the way, i sell" Its just an example. If i know already he is a dealer, then i can take into consideration that he may stand to profit from what he tells me.

So far, regardless, everybody on this site has been great. I cant say enough about how much i learned here, how many great people i have met at the 2 TDR meets i have attended and even how much time i spend here actually learning something, instead of watching TV or out spending money.

My point is this, i dont know anything more about the Evan situation then what i have read in this thread, but from that information alone, i think he should be allowed back, he has too much valuble information that we all can benifit from. I live thousands of miles away from him and have never even talked to him via Email, so i am not going to pass judgement of him and either agree or disagree with any of his past actions, it was in the past, maybe he has changed, maybe there is more to the story, i dont know, so i am only concerned with the situation now. I posted a question awhile back for a wire location and he responded in minutes with the exact wire, and he was right. Without him here at that time, i would have had to buy a service manual and spend who knows how long trying to solve the problem i had.

By now we all know he works for a dealer, its no secret. If he is willing to list he is an employee of a distributor to satisfy the TDR requirements, then i say give him another shot. This site is about learning stuff about trucks and having a good time, lets keep politics in the real world and get Evan back where he belongs. Just my opinion

P. S As for the whole Rob Vs. Evan issue. If Rob does in fact have an issue with Evan, thats fine, but it should not interfere with the TDR. Basicaly, (and I am not saying you are) but IF you are making point to follow Evan around here and report him for every violation he makes because he p**sed you off awhile back, or deliberatley post responses to things he says in a negative manner, that is really not cool. Let the Moderators take care of that. If i ever have a problem with someone in here (Which i dont)i will just ignore them, thats all. I would never report anybody for anything. (Once again, this current issue aside, i like Rob and think he too is an asset to this site. I dont want to see anybody kicked off here, i dont want to see anybody upset with anyone. "Cant we all just get along?"

Come back Evan!

I agree with Ray: Evan only answerd a direct question. Was he spamming? No. Was he misleading? Not IMHO. Do I Know Evan? No. Do I know 1/4 of what went on? No, just this thread and the one he got booted for.

Evan has helped me immensely, I value his input. He has made me LMAO! I'd hate to see TDR become like so many other lists (which I no longer belong to) and get so puckered up over such a (arguably) small infraction! :(

Please allow Evan back!

Maybe Evan will learn a lesson here. Maybe not!

New / Revised guidelines

Thanks Kat... You Passed the test with flying colors. . Anyone who keeps posting with a female on hold should not own a dodge. :D

Getting back to the subject at hand: I believe you probably have interpeted it right "KAT" that employees of vendors would fall in that catagory, although it does not specifically state it as so? Since I have Much experience in this area, I would like at this time to recommend the following be added to Item #6C forum guildlines to clarify: This would include: Vendors, employees, spouses, children, friends, relatives, clergy, pets, governmental bodies,CPA'S,Dodge Truck Dealers, Ford Truck Dealers.

Item 6Ca. Anyone else missed, in item 6C.

Item 6Cb. Any TDR member who "RATS" on another for the above violations, gets a free TDR renewal. In addition, you may be selected to become a moderator for the new TDRF forum (THE DIESEL RAT F@%KERS)

Thanks, for allowing me to help!!!

:D :D

Banned??

Well, all I have to say is that it sure is nice living here on the East side, we cannot get banned because we live too close to the main office:D:D

Oh yeah Kat, I own a bar and if I say I sell my beer for $1. 75 a bottle does that make me a vender or am I still just the janitor:D:D:D... ... ..... Pete

Give us some time please

Evan's posting privileges have been temporarily revoked while we are reviewing the situation. As has been said above far more has gone on than what has been voiced here - but we are not going to air dirty laundry on the forums no matter who is involved, especially when the party involved does not have the option to reply to it - that would be unprofessional. The decision to turn off a users access is not anything that is taken lightly by the management here. There have been VERY few cases where we have gone to that step (I can only think of two in the history of the site off the top of my head). If you compare the amount of moderation and enforcement of the rules on this site and compare it to the other diesel websites out there you will find that the management is VERY lax here. Banning a user is a weekly occurance on other sites and removing or editing threads is almost a daily occurance and that isn't the case here. We are reviewing all the communications relating to this issue and I will be discussing it with Robert, Robin, and Ken on monday morning (Robert and Robin, the owners of the site are on vacation until then). I would ask that until that time you try to place your faith in us that we are handling this situation in a professional manner and are doing everything we can to keep this one of the best sites on the internet. Thanks for your time and understanding in advance.

Guidelines

As Steve noted, the specifics of this case are between TDR and the person suspended. Whether the guidelines were violated, how often, and if the person has been warned are the deciding factors --- not whether the person has made a large number of posts or has been helpful. Also, campaigning has little impact on the decision.

If anything, a member with seniority ought to be an example to the newbies. The guidelines were put in place to establish order and to keep the forums from being a free for all. Those who violate them are warned and removed if they continue.

The issue will be discussed next week and a final decision made then.

JEEEEZZZZZ!!!!!!! Someone needs to call a wambulance. Sounds like Evan is a little bit black sheep and he has someone ready to bust his hump. It seems like my house when the kids were little. I hope this gets resolved soon.

I suppose that the ads for Amsoil, Bully dog ect. qualifiy for barring from the site too? I have spoken to and responded in my field of expertise. I have recomended products even quoted what I paid for them! My "jobS" have ranged from spaceflight hardware to military rebreathers for depths exceding 1000', I am certified master mechanic and title 8 high voltage qualified. So should I be barred when I "help" my buddies?

Let's let the TDR powers, Do their Job!

Kevin, Steve, & Kat... I have ever bit of faith in you guys in making the right decission. We don't know all the facts, and the rules and guidelines of the TDR are just that, and I can appreciate that. I hope my comments on this issue were taken in "jest". I think our members responses, are reflective of the true brotherhood of our TDR members and hate to see this happen. I for one was glad you guys were asleep at the switch for comments I have made in the past. I respect Evan, no matter the outcome, and hope for a speedy decission.

P. S. When do you guys sleep?:D

Great White, there is nothing wrong with recomending stuff, According to the TDR, its not a problem just as long as your not a dealer or an employee of one. If you are, you MUST identify yourself in you signature (Thanks Joe G for reminding me about that part)

Thanks Setve and Ken. We'll be anxiously awaiting the decision. I hope if Evan hasn't gotten a second chance (previous e-mail warning) he does, but if he has I guess it's up to you guys. I hate to see him go. Keep us posted.

heard from Evan

Well I've just been shooting a few IMs with Evan, he's gotten lots of emails from you guys and appreciates them a lot. While he cannot post for now he still can come and visit the boards. He's still planning on showing up for Timberline this weekend, incase anyone was wondering :)

GET OVER IT

This site is to valuable to us diesel hackers to mess it up. Every community has to have guidelines (rules) or things will get out of hand. The rules here are not very restrictive, and the pleasure and information we all get out of the site is worth the gudelines. One other little thing, it takes alot of $ to support this site, if you want to advertise your business, buy an ad. We all can live with this!

I have tried not to respond to this anymore, but all of this poor, poor Evan stuff is just too much.

We all hate to see him go, and we all hope it is not permanent... but some of you guys are not reading the posts from the moderators. He has not only had a previous warning, but several. He brags about having been warned already five times, by Patton himself. He cheats on his language on the forums... remember his Dr. P post? That is just one of many. He skirted around the avatar limitation and made his larger. He has skewed facts to make a product look better/worse to those that read his posts. I can reference his posts on all of this... try searching his posts. Does he help this board and its members? Yes. But you need to know he is a vendor employee, just as he tried selling us banks ottominds, and yet just about every other post on banks from him is negative. When I questioned this, he says I am picking on him, and that he would disclose all problems with the banks stuff when we call to purchase some. Maybe. Maybe not.

The number one reason he should take some time off from posting is much more serious. He has threatened to email a virus to a tdr member for reminding him of the rules. No, it was not me... it was a different member of which can remain nameless. I will not go into details on that, except to say that he has many stories out there on what has happened, and I doubt that any two match.

How about all of Evan's "real HP" posts? All of his talk about how boxes are not real HP. All of a sudden, his employers start to carry a new line of electronic boxes, he installs one for "testing", and tries to sell them on this board. Is it real HP now that they sell them?

One last thing... Evan accuses me of following him around on the board. Go read the posts on those threads... almost each and every one, I posted first on it. The only one I didn't was on the 12 valve forum where he posted some info, taking credit for it when in fact, it was not his idea. I simply gave the credit where it belonged, and posted parts numbers.

The red valve cover is another issue... he would not post the correct number for it cause he wanted to be "unique". He got upset with me when I posted the numbers. Grow up! If the product is purchased across the counter, its not going to remain unique for long.

We all correct misunderstandings and misinformation on this board. How many of you have posted and corrected misinformation? Does that mean you are picking on that person? I don't think so.

The solution was very simple a while ago. All he had to do was control his language a bit and put his business name in his signature identifying that he was associated with the shop. That way, we can read his posts in the manner they are meant... to sell products. Bragging about all of his warnings doesn't show a lot of maturity nor does his sudden changes in product evaluations.

A rat is a rat no matter what color it is!!!

Despite who says what, when, where. What you believe, disgree, or getting credit for is up to the reader of this forum, to form his or her opinion. The thing that I dispise the most is not the opinions of others, bad language, slicing, dicing, bantering and plain eye gouging is the fact that a brother TDR Member would "RAT" on another member. That in my opinion is the lowest.

Let the TDR Staff do their job!:)
