I am asking this question for my dad he has a 99 24 valver with the edge ez. comming home last night the truck and trailer it was running great and after decending down a hill he hit the go pedal and could feel no power to speak of. fuel pressure did not change. boost will only go to 12 psi. no smoke. no strange sounds, egts ok. Just no power. I had him listen for air leaks and said he heard none. Just changed the fuel filter 2k ago. I have heard it could be a stuck waste gate. How can I check this and any other suggestion to look at or tests to perform?

this just happend to my truck, my wastegate wasnt messed up though. i took a crow bar and checked my wastegate you can tell if everything moves free. you can also take the hose off of the boost elbow and take a air hose to blow in the line going to the wastegate acutator with an air chuck it should move. my truck ended up with a short in the map sensor wires on my edge my check engine light was on though. hope i have been of help.

First, don't panic... yet. I felt my wastegate kick in yesterday for the first time, scared the crap outta me till I figured out what it was. I was towing heavy up an incline with the cruise control on, and near the top the grade increased quite a bit. The cruise doing what it is susposed to do, grabbed the go pedal and opened er up. Thing was, I was already around #22 of boost. The wastegate opened, and it felt like the truck was dead. Evidently, the wastegate takes a bit of time to reset itself. I pulled off for a few minutes and let it cool. I fired back up and headed down the highway. So did dad have the cruise on? It could have poped at the top of the grade and did not reset itself right away. Take her out for a test drive, chances are all is well. Sarge

no cruise on but he drove it in to town this morning and it worked great then hoped in this afternoon and back to the same scenorio. No boost. ONe thing which is strange when he turns off the engine and you are by the airfilter it sounds like air is hissing for a minute or so. Unfortunatlyl he is taking to the st oops I mean dealer in the morning. Heck they told him they do not evern know what a waste gate is. I wished him luck. I also suspect he could have a lifter pump going bad his fuel presure on the gauage is only running around 5 psi, but I do not think that is the immideate problem.

I guess my question would be did it throw a code or not? Did the check engine light come on? Sounds like loose connection to EZ or map sensor, but that would throw a code.

Let us know

Does he have an EGT gauge? If so are the temps higher then normal? I'd double check all the intercooler boots, one could be off just slightly.

Well dealer says that it is the lift pump, but here is the kicker he had the reverse gear went out this summer and took the dealer and was fixed 1800 later but he learned they labled his truck as high performance and when Dave Smiths in kellog entered his serial numbers for the warrtee it came up as high performace and said they can not warentte the lift pump. Well live and learn I guess he should have taken the ez off before he had the reverse gear fixed.
