My stock Infinity stereo was not able to tune in any AM stations. FM stations seemed to lose reception not far from town. I checked the back of the stereo and everything was plugged in and tight. Checked the antenna base, it too was ok. A local radio repair told me to try a metal coat hanger in the antenna outlet. This brought in my AM stations. So I knew the stereo was ok. I thought the antenna cable must be damaged. The dealer had one in stock for $13. 00 dollars so I bought one. This is where I realized that there was a 2nd conection under the dash. The 2nd connection was next to the bottom of the glove box by the right kick panel. It was wrapped in a gray foam tape. This connection had come apart. The aluminum casing had split apart allowing the cable to separate partially. This would allow FM tuning but not AM tuning.

I was able to push the two connections back together and all is well. Oo. I am posting this hoping to save someone else a little trouble.

I am in need of a rear "B" pillar Infinity speaker. I have a partial part number of 5602**6. If anyone has removed the stock equipment and still has one of the rear speakers laying around, I would be interested in it. Please pm or e-mail me at -- email address removed --.

I knew there was a connection down there. It's in a place were it could get kicked accidentally. Thanks for the report!

The cable is actually tucked up under the dash. It rides along a metal brace that supports the bottom of the glove box. There is a hole in the brace that allows you to fish it out. It would be tough to accidently kick it loose, unless you have kids, then anything is possible.

Thanks, I'd searched on this subject quite a while back. My original stereo-with just the tape deck- lost AM- gotta have my Rush, Hannity, and Boortz :-{} everyday. So out it went, in came the old one from my brother's 96. It had the cd player. The AM works now, but it gets real fuzzy at stoplights, power lines and metal buildings. I'll try this connector and see if its the culprit. On the other hand, the stereo is also possessed with other demons- the cd player skips repeatedly and rejects most cd's, and the volume increases when I turn the knob to decrease it, and the tuner buttons send me to random stations. I think its possessed especially because it will usually send me to Rap or Country when I try to access the Christian stations... :confused:

Any suggestions for fixing that??

Your AM reception sounds like what I have now after fixing my cable problem. I could not pick up anything on AM. Anytime you pass under power lines it will effect the AM reception. I know older cd players will not play MP3 cds, but I bet that stereo has seen its better days. Put your old stereo back in and buy a external CD player that plays through your FM radio. I have a 10 disk cd player that sits under the rear seat and it plays through my stock Infinity tape deck.

I am still looking for a rear infinity speaker if anyone has one.

I would do that but I threw the old one away a few months ago. I used the walkman style cd player to play cds, but the AM did not work. I just HAVE to have my talk radio :-{}

I'll just have to ask santa for a new stereo for Christmas... That way I can spend more on bombs/pre-m and less on interior gadgets.
