Apologies to the Air Force in advance

This is a VERY tough thing in life to go through..... I'm very sorry for your loss of a true-"friend".
Just remember that he's still with ya in his favorite spot.

I've lost a few good friends and it's damned tough to go through... ... .

Keep your head up bro.

Sorry for your loss as well. I am going through the same with my lab, but due to divorce instead. Keep your chin up. We should talk shop sometime.

I had a hard time

I like you have lost a best friend Rocco, I had to put him down 4 yrs ago it was the hardest thing I have ever done and as of right now Ii have not yet gotten another dog. He would travel with me where ever I would go, all I would have to do is go to the drawer where the collar and chain are (still there) and open the drawer and he knew it was time to go somewhere with dad. The one thing that bothered me the most was that I was the person that had to take him to be put down but the vet gave me some very inspiring words that I thought id pass along. He (the vet) told me that I had many great years with my good friend and I OWED it to him to do the right thing. Which i did. To this day 4 yrs later their isnt a day that I come home and open the front door and expect him to be standing there.

My condolences to you and your family.

ROB - not knowing your situation -= you need another dog... ... my oldest son loves dogs BUT doesn't want to go through the heartbreak of loosing one --he's 35 and has a 7 year old that love our labs - but he went through loosing some while growing up and it still hurts him... ... I'm working on him - and it does kill me also when I look at that leash and especially the zillion photos I have - and some great big ones at home..... people who have never gotton close to a dog - DO NOT HAVE A CLUE - sort'a like FORD People... sorry I couldn't help myself..... We could go on for hours about those noble dogs..... here's something that was written about dogs from an employee of the Orvis Company - couldn't be more true.....

Dogs in our Lives!

"We aren't house proud. If we were, we wouldn't abide the scratches on the door frame, the holes in the screen, the darkened shine of worn spots on the chair. We would wince at the mottled carpet and fret at the hair clinging to our clothes.

"We don't. If anything, we lovers of dogs, are a tolerant lot, finding greater value in the unabashed affection of our friends than in immaculate sofas. Shoes can be replaced, but heroic retrievers are timeless.

"Without dogs, our houses are cold receptacles for things. Dogs make a fire warmer with their curled presence. They wake us, greet us, protect us, and ultimately carve a place in our hearts and our history. On reflection, our lives are often referenced in parts defined by the all-too-short lives of our dogs

My deepest sympathies my dog Max passed away 3 weeks ago he always enjoyed rides in the old truck too.

Thanks guys for all your support. I didn't think I was alone in the way I felt about my co-pilot.

Here is a picture of him about a year ago.

Lost my best friend on May 27th - https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=159667 . Kinda lonely around here this christmas without him here. He's been on our christmas cards for years. We're going to pick out our new puppy the beginning of january and get to bring her home around Jan 20th (litter was born 2 weeks ago - there's two grey/white females and we get first pick). We waited until now to let the grieving process work it's way through the family.

By isn't that true been over 7 years for me :(

Don, wish there was something I could say :( do your best to think about the good times I know I do!!!

Good luck on the new pup.....

and I remember Rainbow Bridge - I can't tell you how much I feel for folks who have never been really close to a dog... ..... sorry but in my opinion - life isn't complete until you have unconditionally shared it with a dog.....

We went through that with our Rottweiller in May 05, so I know it's a tough thing to go through. We're finally (this Thursday) getting a new puppy. (another female Rott) While no dog will ever replace our Sammi, the new one (Emma) will be a nice distraction. :)

Hang in there... .

OK, I know I said we were just getting a female pup, but they had this un-wanted male runt of the litter to get rid of... .

I'm either a glutton for punishment, or the softest marshmallow on the planet. (or both?) They're a lot of fun and will require A LOT of time and effort to train, but I think it will be worth it. (again)
