I'm hoping for some ideas to get my transmission back with OD.

I was on the way to Mopar Fest in Canada today javascript:smilie(':D')

big grin

and I got all the way to Detroit MI when there was an accident that had shut the highway down. We detoured though town for about 5 miles to get around it and when we got back on the freeway I had no getup and go. It took forever to get up to the normal shift point for the TC to lockup - and it didn't javascript:smilie(':--)')

Dropped Jaw I do have a manual override switch that I used to try to engage the TC. No luck.

We got back off the freeway and pulled into a parki0ng lot thinking that maybe the transmission was too warm from the highway to town to highway. We sat for about 15 minutes with the truck idling. javascript:smilie(':{')

Cryny :{ No such luck. All I have is 1st, 2nd & 3rd gears. When I reached home I had to unload the car trailer before I could get the trailer up the dirt drive. I thought I got the trailer stuck because of the rain we had Friday but the spinning noise wasn't the tires digging in mud. The wheels weren't even spinning.

I have the stock TC, which has been shuddering really bad on stops. The truck has just 80K. Fluids are changed regularly on the 5's (5K oil, 25K trans). I use Hyperlube in all the fluids (transmission, oil, gears). I pull an enclosed car trailer 6 or so times a year (5-10K) and use the truck for regular commuting (550 miles per week). BTW the mileage has gone to pot in the last year down to 19 on commutes. My stock 95 stick does that every day.

I'm thinking the TC or maybe the temp. sensor if I'm lucky. I'm intending to test the sensor it in the morning. This weekend has been entirely too much fun. javascript:smilie('')

roll eyes (sarcastic) I guess I should have taken the hint when the trailer had a flat before I even left.

When you ask a question we need to know what year beast you are talking about. If your electrical connections are clean and tight then your TCC may be toast. Since you do have a way to manually lock the TCC that pretty much elimates the TPS craziness. Remember, with a manual lock switch it won't lock up at idle throttle position. You have to be excellerating some.

Sorry, '97.

I have tried to edit the signature but for some reason I can't access my profile. It always says I'm not a member...

The next thing to do is the pressure tests. From what you say I suspect that the trans is a lost cause. Rebuild or replace time.

I agree with Joe for now, TCC Clutch went south probably messed up other transmission parts while doing it.

Will have to dig my manual out of the Mule and read up on auto trannies. See if anything else could cause that problem.

I think your trans or something in it is gone.

Joe I was just wondering if tcc stayed locked up would it cause slower than usual climb in speed?

Bill,

Mine accelerates quicker with the TCC locked up. It's probably because it stays on the good part of the torque curve longer.

Well I guess its a good thing that the Terre Haute Diesel Extravaganza is next week. I will be talking to a local transmission shop to confirm a diagnosis. I will definetly be looking for a TC next Saturday.

I'm looking for suggestions on brands or replacement parts. I know I'm not looking at stock again. I've seen the referals to DTT and the info on their web site looks good. Any other hot recommendations?

Anyone know of a good small diesel shop in northern Indiana? I've heard about Shields in Lafayette - but no references for them. Anyone else pop to mind?

No Overdrive

I have a 1995 3500 4x4 CTD with an auto that was working great one day driving the interstate going 75. I stopped for diesel and when I got back on the interstate it would not go into overdrive.

I checked and bypassed the temp sensor, speed sensor, etc. and nothing helped. Upon Bill Kondolays recommendation, I removed the trans pan and took an ohm meter to the two solenoids that are located on the bottom of the valve body under the filter. One was open and the other measured something around 57 ohms.

I went to the stealer and got a new pair of solenoids for about $15. oo to $20. 00 and put it in and IT WORKED!!!!

You might call Bill Kondolay if this does not take care of it, I am sure he will have many good ideas of what to check to help troubleshoot your problem. :) :) :) :) :) :)
