Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Lost overdrive & cruise control on road trip

I just got back from a Sunday road trip from Reno to Sacramento- 125 miles. Just as I got to Sacramento on I-80 I lost my cruise control & transmission down shifted out of overdrive. The conditions remained the same on the return untill I hit Truckee, about 3/4 of the way home. It went back to normal overdrive & cruise control came back again until I got to the outskirts of Reno. Then it quit again. It was off & on until I got home. But at the end of the trip, it was stuck downshifted & no cruise control. Thats the way its parked in my driveway right now. Anybody have these symptoms? I had the computer reflashed for updates about 3 months ago & has been running great until today. Any help appreciated. Got to look into it tomorrow.
