This has been a long debated and heated discussion on this forum... . you might want to do some research if you have a few hours to kill.
My $. 02 worth is the following: I have run for over 10k miles without a plate and yeah the EGT's will get hot if you keep your foot into it. If you have guages then just keep you eye on the temps... .
For a quick fix and to have some fun... . removing the plate will make some power. There is a rumor that the excess rack travel could cause a pin inside the pump to shear off and then you will wreck the governor inside the pump.....
All the excess rack travel you get from removing the plate will make more power than having a stock plate in the stock position with all other factors being at OEM settings..... BUT, there is more than one way to skin a cat, and rack travel isn't the end-all solution to making power.
Do the research and decide what's right for you... .
I went from 139. 9rwhp to 258. 6rwhp just by removing the plate and properly adjusting the AFC starwheel/housing.
