I was woundering what would happen if you were to just remove the fueling plate and run without one. Anybody done it? How was smoke, power, egt? Any chance of damage to the engine?

This has been a long debated and heated discussion on this forum... . you might want to do some research if you have a few hours to kill.

My $. 02 worth is the following: I have run for over 10k miles without a plate and yeah the EGT's will get hot if you keep your foot into it. If you have guages then just keep you eye on the temps... .

For a quick fix and to have some fun... . removing the plate will make some power. There is a rumor that the excess rack travel could cause a pin inside the pump to shear off and then you will wreck the governor inside the pump.....

All the excess rack travel you get from removing the plate will make more power than having a stock plate in the stock position with all other factors being at OEM settings..... BUT, there is more than one way to skin a cat, and rack travel isn't the end-all solution to making power.

Do the research and decide what's right for you... .

I went from 139. 9rwhp to 258. 6rwhp just by removing the plate and properly adjusting the AFC starwheel/housing.

now i'm finding out that you can slip your timing without having a plate in your pump (215 pump related?). i know a guy who did that, and boom. a couple people told him that it'd happen. just gave him directions for a ground stock plate---flat.

your still going to get hot though with a flat ground stock plate. That is just like the 0 plate without all the rack travel. Egt's will go through the roof still if you keep your foot in it.

My brother (Reb. B) and I have found that if you have a 0 plate full forward you have 18mm of rack travel. Which is a lot of fuel. There is also a hex head plug on the front of the injector pump... this limits the amount of travel (not quite sure to how much, but over 18mm). The pin inside is at 21 or 21. 5 mm of rack travel. If you wanna have fun, remove the plate and put a spacer on that plug. But you don't want to hit that pin inside, then you run the risk of breaking it and then all hell breaks loose. But if you have 21mm of rack travel... ... that equals a ton-o-fuel. :D Just gotta have the turbo to feed all that air.
