I appreciate the hint on turning up the idle onmyrecently purchased 98 3500. Thanks! Next problem. This truck smokes! The previous owner told me had bigger injectors put in and a different cam put in the fuel pump. I need to eliminate this smoking condition. I can appreciate aftermarket accessorizing- but if this is causing the smoking id rather not have it. It smokes when on the throttle significantly. And although I dont see a cloud when driving steady on the highway doing 60 or so, friends tell me it is in fact putting out more than normal. Where do I begin in this situation. As some of you may know, I am a mechanic, but the cummins diesel scene is new to me.

Smoke isnt a bad thing ,but if you want a little less you can try moving the camplate back a little and turn the star wheel back a little but you wont have the power it has now.

As stated. .

Slide the camplate towards the rear some and see if that helps. If not yet to your satisfaction call one of the numerous TDR friendly shops and purchase a different AFC spring to help limit smoke control. You may also try to adjust the one(AFC spring) in the truck now and see if it helps or not... Andy

mine smokes at WOT, but i can get rid of all smoke on the low end with the star wheel (i just have a tad coming out now). unless you want to detune the power... or do some other adjustments, just turn back the star wheel and keep your foot out of WOT.
