I have a 01 ram with a power edge comp box , exhaust and a air raid intake system thats it. For a while now it hasent felt like it has as much power as it use to and its not towing well it only has 60k on it and I havent done a lift pump yet. So the other day i put a fuel pressure gauge on it and im getting between 6 and 10 at idle and it drops to 3 at WOT and I havent seen the truck blow black smoke in a long time. im not sure but im thinking that thats ok pressure for a stock truck but not one with any upgrades? and I am lost as to which way to go with a new pump I am going to move it closer to the tank but I dont know if i should go with a fass replacement pump or a high performance fass system or airdog system I dont see doing to many more upgrades to the truck so i dont want to waste money on a fuel system i dont need can you guys help?

Where did you measure the pressure. at the filter or the injection pump. In either case pressure should not be below 10 psi. You may have already damaged the vp-44. Go with what ever pump you want just get the pressure up. I have the oem pump back at the tank for a long time . Still have original vp-44 at 687,000 kms. I have had gauges since new and change lift pump when pressure drops below 10 under any circumstance. Hope this helps.

with just a comp box, I'd get the fass ddrp. Price wont break the bank and has a 3 yr warranty, think mines about up on warranty and have not had any issues, pressure never goes below 9-10 psi, gave up on the stock carters a while ago. hopefully your injection pump is still ok.

Cycle you key on & off 3 times and on the third time leave it in the on position. Look at the odometer to see if there are any codes.

ok I got this p-ecu ... p-0216... p-done and p-pcu... p-1693... p-done make any sense ? they might be old i have never done that??

The 1693 code is a companion code that is there when there are other codes. The 0216 is a code for the timing failure for the injector pump. Most times it means you will need a injector pump at some point. I would get your fuel pressure stabilized first.

ok I got the DDRP pump and the relo kit got it on and have 17psi at idle and havent got it to go below 10 WOT thanks for your help the truck runs much better. Anyone know how I can clear these codes? to see if they come back

Recommend that you double-check your fuel pressure at the VP-44.

I had a similar issue using one of the aluminum fuel filter caps that Geno's sells. At start, the pressure at the fuel filter cap port would be ZERO psi and rise slowly (20-30 seconds or so) to about 10psi at idle. This was verified both with the in-cab (electrical) guage and with a manual guage that I screwed onto the port. However, when I hooked the manual guage onto the VP-44 test port, it showed a full 16-18 psi at the same time that the in-cab guage was reading 0 psi at the filter cap.

Might just be that you are getting the pressure that you want, but you won't know for sure until you check somewhere other than the fuel filter cap.
