I've got a 2018 Ram 3500 with only 40,000 miles, so I'm surprised I'm having problems with the turbo. It started acting up a few days ago and the dashboard screen shows it's only building up to 8 psi, then returning to 0 even when I jam the gas pedal. It's a fight going up hills on the freeway. Could it be due to any sensors? What is the best course of action in diagnosing and fixing this problem? Thanks

Has there been any maintenance or modifications recently? Is it all stock? How long has it been sitting?

Might want to check clamps on turbo hoses for tightness and possible rubbed slight hole in turbo hoses. I recall @Cummins12V98 showed he found rubbing on the turbo hose while changing oil filter.

I had to have a new turbo and actuator installed on my 2018 under warranty with only 29K. Only major repair I have had to a Cummins and I have owned one since Fall 2002. Was not what I expected at such low mileage.

Sir yes Sir!!!

They replaced under warranty.

No they don't, some are spring loaded, the others are pre tensioned at the factory.
That's what I love on these new trucks, they come finished from the factory, not as a kit like in the old days where the owner had to do the final assembly.

Jim W your not in left field good to bring up as those vanes can get sticky if not used all the time.

Possibly, but shouldn't be a problem anymore as they cycle it three times at each startup. But sure there are trucks out there that did not get the update yet.

Even when I installed my first EB on my 2000 Ram 3500 I used it constantly. Since I only had cab and chassis's with the 6.7L with integrated EB, it stays on. Keeps tubo slide vanes healthy and also saves brakes.

Start truck hit EB and TH every time.

That's a good technique, but certainly not gospel. How many miles did your actuator make it?

I can't stand TH empty, just over revs the motor for no reason.

I see the poster is one and done! Why?

Often times forums don't default to e-mail notification and many don't realize that. Also it's not uncommon for new forum emails to go to the junk folder. Ends up that people don't get notified and don't check on their own.

Will I am not up to date on the new trucks that much, but I can say that I have almost 145,000 miles on the original turbo and actuator for my turbo. I have had one CEL, in the past for the turbo not responding quick enough to the ECM. But I cleared the CEL and the CEL has never returned.

I was coming off of a mountain with the exhaust brake on and commanded the throttle at the bottom of the hill, the brake did not shut off fast enough at the time. One time only.

That is why you run the exhaust brake on all of the time.
