Please clarify what this ULSD means for 03 engines. The sticker on the pump says" not for use in 07 and later models" so what does it do to an 03 in the long run that I need to be looking for. I also have heard that I can run the bioblend 80% every two tanks or so, and help compensate for the lack of lubricant.

There is lube added at the pipeline as I load my tanker with ULSD. You should have no problems with it's use. I will continue to use Power Service in my 05 as I did in my 01 just for the added lub. The stickers on the pump are do to the 500 ppm LSD could damage the emission system & possabley harm the injection system. There for until the stations are all in compliance with the new 15ppm ULSD the warring is posted for 07 diesel vehicles. I'm delivering ULSD since June here in Oregon & the stations need to be in spec by Sept.

Hope that clears the air for all those worried about the new blend.

Diesel prices tick me off here in WV. The diesel prices are always around $2. 90 to $3. 00 even when regular gas is down around $2. 69. When gas increases to the price of diesel, the diesel price stays pretty constant. Sometimes it increases a couple of cents. When gas prices drop over time, the diesel doesn't.

I read in the TDR quarterly that gas is less because Europe is sending us gas to make up the loss in production due to the hurricanes last year. They are not sending us diesel since that is their most used fuel. As a result, diesel is not getting any relief in prices since the hurricanes knocked off some production capability. I think this is a valid reason that when coupled with ULSD, will cause prices to be high.

With that said, the better fuel efficiency in my truck (16. 5-17. 5 mpg) is still saving me fuel money over the Toyota Tundra V8 (15. 0 mpg) I had previously.

The sticker applies to 2007 trucks becaue the pump DOES NOT HAVE USLD fuel yet. When the ULSD fuel hits the pumps, the sticker will be removed. Your 2003 truck will (or at least should) run just fine with either fuel.

I just read an article that said we'll be paying . 20 to . 30 cents more per gallon for the priviledge of using the low sulphur diesel fuel.

Diesel prices

I'm in Huntington Beach Ca. The cheapest diesel in Orange County consistently is a 76 station at Commonwealth/Raymond in Fullerton. 2. 97 yesterday. Another 76 about 3 miles south is 2. 37. Go figure.

Whaaaaat!

$2. 37 a gallon up there? I'm in San Diego and the best price I've seen is $3. 09. :{

Too bad most states weren't paying attention to mandate a small percentage of Biodiesel with the introduction of ULSD; there would be no lubricity concerns with even 2% bio.

$3. 30 for both ULSD and B20 here on the coast.

we have been paying . 20 to . 50 more per gallon for diesel for at least the last year and a half here in utah. I am getting sick of it diesel is always more than premium fuel. today I was thankful to fill up at 2. 97/gal which is still . 01 more than premium gas. It seems the west has taken the diesel hit for a long time, everywhere else in the country is paying about the same for diesel as they are gas, I still haven't gotten a logical explaniation, I would think when diesel is . 40/gal cheaper in other states around us, one could make some money trucking it in to the state

We have been getting ripped off in the west. Our price for diesel has fluctuated to as much as 20 cents above premium to around 12 cents below regular. Most of the time it is higher than gas. What ever the reason, I am tired of feeling like I am getting ripped of and lied to.

What I don't get is 2 weeks ago I filled up at a Sinclair for $2. 91. Yesterday the same station is 3. 34. That's just nuts!

Thanks for the 1st hand info.

So we are all probably getting near ULSD at the pump now, even if it isn't labeled that yet, as they can't label it as such until they meet 15 ppm.

My understanding is that ULSD has a lubricity spec, where LSD did not. So it seems that with ULSD lubricity may be better than before (from that additive put in the tanker), and the need and cost for putting in our own additives might be eliminated.

I run a biodiesel blend when available, so I don't worry about lubricity anyway.

Chevron's earnings were there highest in the company's 127 year history. Reg unleaded 3. 14,diesel 3. 07 here in Dayton,NV. Oo.

I read that there may be benefits to the engine from ULSD, less sulfur = less acid, so maybe longer oil changes?

And though the ULSD process reduces lubricity, there is now a spec for it and additives will have to be added before the pump. So lubricuty could be better than before.

Maybe this explains diesel fuel going from $2. 60 to $3. 29 in a couple of months time here.

That is a big change, I think it's a local thing. Here in Marion, IA, it's gone from $2. 82 - 3. 05.

The midwest avg over the last 2 months was $2. 824 on May 29, and $2. 988 on July 31. A 5. 8% increase.

http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/oog/info/wohdp/dslpriwk.txt

Crude oil went from $62. 83 to $66. 57 over the same time. A 6% increase.

http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/dnav/pet/hist/wtotusaw.htm

So it doesn't seem be much of a ULSD factor, yet.
