Cat fuel filtration system?

2004 305/555 auto 4.10 srw. Was chasing a boost leak. Most was 17ish. I later found my waste gate was acting up. I was able to free it up and got boost back. A week or two later it happened again. I blame this towing for ever and life style changes make it now a 1 ton dad van and only tow when camping with my 33ft trailer or using a dumb trailer here and there.

I decided to hose crimp the hose on the waste gate and boost now is back easily can hit factory specs sometimes even 30 up hills. But with the bypass valve stuck open it still regulates preventing over boosting.

So before all of this egts we’re normal. 400ish idle in drive. And depending on driving habits empty I can kiss 1100 but mainly it’s just a tad over 1k and that’s foot to floor up hill, towing heavy 1200-1300. Now haven’t towed yet but empty it takes everything I have empty to get it pass 800. Steep hills foot to floor boost at almost 30 I saw mid 900 once and maybe not even that.

So in tell I get it fixed what are long term effects of these EGT temps if any? Mileage is great and still warms up and drives great. I lost my lower torque punch but with 4.10s and stock tires that truck never sees below 2k rpm’s unless I’m slowing down

What kind of pyro are you using? I’d question the numbers your seeing displayed.

I use gauges and sensors from HGSI sensor connection. I would bet money my probe and gauge are accurate. I had normal egts, then when I had my boost problem high egts and lack of power and now different currently where I’m at using now a modified internal waste gate lol

I’m not asking what my problem is or how to fix it. I’m asking for a cummins person who knows about these motors more then I do and how there controlled electronically and the parameters of the ECU/ECM I’m not going to ruin anything. Or tell me what my fuel map is

I'm not sure either if there is an issue or engine condition that would explain lower egts.

I'd post my baselines for my 03 305 6speed but its not stock.

My Autometer pyro got to where it would read very low, sometimes pegged below zero. The gauge needed to be grounded to the engine. Once I did that, problem solved. You’d have to change the laws of physics for a diesel engine to perform as it should but have EGT’s as low as the OP says he has.

Anyone else ever heard of HGSI?

Are these numbers pre or post turbo..? I had a 6spd 4:10 truck and empty it was pretty hard to hit high EGT numbers unless you intentionally chose the wrong gear... Towing at speed on the highway, I rarely was lower than 2300RPM so not alot of heat and low boost, unless climbing grades or rolling hills, of course I would down shift to direct and they would drop quickly.

Stock was 23 psi of boost, so you’re pushing more air which means lower EGTs. I wouldn’t worry about them, but I would get the wastegate fixed vs bandaided.

absolutely I’m getting it fixed. Not trying to get recommendations on good enough repairs to save a buck. Just after experiencing what I saw with boost levels, EGTs in comparison with normal, boost malfunction and now this I guess I was explaining what I saw from three scenarios and for someone who doesn’t want to rip off a turbo of a daily driver long term effects of lower egts specially that winter is here and it takes forever for these things to warm up without emissions and no load. I do have new diaphragm and hose on order finally

No real negative long term effects. Get a new adjustable wastegate and set it at 25-28 psi. Cooler is good when working it hard.
