a REALLY BIG diesel engine

Anybody want a M123A1C, 6x6 truck with a Cummins

That's what I think of the dirtbag that stole the spare tire off my truck. I leave it parked outside 1 night and that's what happens. It didn't just fall off, it was definitely winched down. Any ideas on how to secure the spare? Chain it to the frame? Anyway, just wanted to vent.

That Sucks!

In addition to purchasing and installing a Mopar/McGard spare tire winch lock (replaces the OE winch receptical mechanism... where the crank enters), I also added a Kryptonite brand cable lock, threading it through the wheel and bed cross support.

BTW, the Mopar winch lock can be purchased at your Dodge dealer for around $30. The familiar clover-type key used is located all the way down deep in the winch tube... there is no way anyone is going to release the winch without the special key/tube.

My spare on my '98 was stolen in Redding, CA back in 1999. Man, was I pi$$ed when I discovered the spare to be gone when I was washing my truck...

Well, when they stole my WHOLE DAMNED TRUCK in April, they stripped everything off they could EXCEPT the spare tire. They stole the aluminum running boards, the matching in bed tool box, the front bumper guards, bug deflector, & hitch reciever. I got it back, and the ins co. replaced all that stuff, plus replaced the punctured radiator, bent fan, & broken shroud, rear bumper, Grill, & the grey trim around the fog lights & front bumper. They painted both sides of the bed & one door. They replaced all the door & ignition locks. They even replaced the front carpet, and found a loaded Colt . 357 mag, hid under the edge of the carpet above the go pedal! It was a long, 6 week ordeal, but it's sure good to have Big Red back amoung those that love him! It was like loosing a pet that found his way home.

When I bought my '84 Ford, it came with a cable and padlock on the spare. When I comented about the nice "extra". I was told that a few months earlier when they showed up at the dealers one monday morning the spares had been stolen from every truck on the lot. The started putting the cable and lock on all new trucks as soon as they came in.

I know that it is after the fact but go to OSH hardware and they sell a 4ft cable and lock for about $10. 00.

I would check with your insurance co. and see what your comprehensive deductable amount is. Go to the dealer, get a written price on a new rim and tire and turn it in to your ins. co.

The amount you get could buy you a used rim and tire.

Sad that there are a$$holes out there that do that sort of thing.

Sounds good

It really makes you wonder why people will go out of their way to vandalize a vehicle for no apparent reason. A few months ago I had some lowlife scumbag(s) walk down my driveway just to throw a flowerpot (which was also mine) at my truck in an attempt to break the window. It was a clear act of vandalism, along with the mailboxes they destroyed on the way to my house. They didn't break the window but they scratched it and put a dent in my door. I still worry they'll come back and do it again since they failed to break the window the first time.

Badunit, If you think about the cost of a new tire for our rigs, all that guy has to do is hit three more trucks and He/She has a new $700. 00 set of tires:mad:

I had my truck about 6 months and I had it parked out front in the middle of the day, I saw two kids come around my corner and watched the passenger throw a rock at my camper shell. I ran out and the side window was busted out, the paint scratched. I chased them down, called the cops, they called his mom. She said that if I didn't press charges that she would pay for my damage. Like an idiot, I trusted her and got burned. I tried to get her to pay and the bi#ch got a lawyer and threatened to sue me if I harrased her any more!!! I said to heck with it and turned it into my insurance co. Let them hassle her.

NO MR. NICE GUY!!!!

Motorhead, I would call the cops. Just explain the circumstances and get your money back. She is just playing hard ball with you. I certainly wouldn't let the B!tchget away with that.

I did and they said that because I didn't press charges then, I agreed to a settlement with her. It was a year and a half ago.

Kill switches work!!!

Just this past Sunday me and the girlfriend go to an afternoon movie. Right in front of the theater some a$$hole breaks my side window steals the radio and tear's up the ignition trying to steal my truck.

Thank god for the kill switch or my baby would have been gone.

Dang, after some of these stories, I feel lucky nothing worse happened. The thief even winched the cable back up after removing the spare. Anyway, I got one of those winch locks that John mentioned. Now if they want to steal the spare, they have to break into the cab to get the key tube. Talk about closing the barn door after the cows get out.

My spare's in the box. If they want it they can have it. I just keep and old (almost worn out) tire on a rusty old rim in the box. It holds air, is the same size as the ones on it now and is good enough to get me where I'm going, cost me $0. 00 and no one wants it.

Heck if I see ya with a flat and yours is stolen you can have it ;) .
