Looking forward ( yeah right) to my first lift pump change, which appears to be coming soon. My FP numbers have been steadily dropping despite a new fuel filter about 2 k ago.
I have gone over the instructions both on the TDR and in my Shop manual and it seems pretty straight forward. I thinking I'm going with the "from above method"
I only have a few questions: 1) Will I have to crack injector lines after the new pump is in to get the truck to start? 2) How much, if any Diesel will run out of the fuel line when I pop off the quick connect at the pump inlet? 3) I have read acouple of post that say to prime the pump with oil or fuel prior to installing it so that the pump will seal and pump immediately. Is this correct ( manual says nothing about it) What should I use to prime it? Just dump it in the inlet side I assume so that it gets down into the pump?
ANything else that mine helps would be appreciated.
BTW My pump will still pass the NEW DC spec ( I think) as it has 11psi at idle and 5. 8psi at WOT. I was cruising at 75mph at 8. 8psi this weekend. I should have had them replace it acouple of months ago when it would have failed.
Thanks in adavance
