I had my trans oil changed at a friends shop and his helper filled it with Dextron 3 . I had no idea and assumed the young man knew to use ATF plus 3 anyway I headed out the next morn for Durango Colorado with 6 horses & trailer, (about 22,000 combined truck & trailer) in Dallas my Trans was slipping in 1st & 2nd gears on take off, at a fuel stop RPMS reving to 2200 and barely moving, figured I was stuck at the Flying J. I called Roland and after telling his his helper about the delima I was in, we learned of the Dextron 3 accident, Roland suggested adding 1 bottle of Lube Gard. Well that was almost 1800 (6pm) and not knowing any better I locacated the stuff via cell phone in a local auto parts that delievered, I recieved the black bottle it was in stock, so I was set and rearin to go. I tried the stuff and made it to Amerillo, Texas. At 0600. Slipping but not as bad & the out side air temps droped during the night and after letting the truck cool at road side parks thru the night and adding the Lube Gard (maybe). I finilly made it to the the Dodge Dealership on I- 40 to get another trans service the power flush and then a pan drop and filter change and band adjustment, I was asked to tag along by the Trans Mechanic, as he serviced my trans, there was no shavings or mess in the oil or pan ( Big MagHytec ). The Mechanic said that the Lube Gard and Dextron had probably varnished the clutctes or something like that . Anyway it didn't slip on take off after he finished or in OD unless you just stomp in to her hard. I made the trip thru the Wolf Creek Pass on Hwy 160 twice w/ OD off and got back home with out another problem. But my trans is starting to slip in OD on hwy 70 mph if I hit it hard seems ok if I nurse up the power. Ive got 75,000 miles on her now so I guess Bill K wil be seeing me as soon as the hay season is over. So in a way I guess I lucked out I now get a real transmission. And maybe a road trip to Canada to meet Bill and family.
