so what are you using for optics and which mount did you use to mount it, and what is the effective range with that setup?

The range has to be limited by the barrel length.

I'd prefer a dot scope on top of it if it were mine.

I have the Squad Scout from Springfield Armory... it is a wonderful gun, I will never sell it... The 18 inch barrel vs the SOCOM 16 inch gives it a little less muzzle flash and sound... I hope you find what you are looking for...

i was looking at thw Squad Scout as well. i had done the AR-15 thing to death, and dont want to do that again. something about a non-pistol grip rifle that i like more.
