Switch for Edge EZ

Hello all,

I have decided that injectors will be my first power upgrade for my 2001 ETC. After being a member of these boards for over 2 years now, I have come to the conclusion that Machs are the way to go, however, I am debating between Mach 1s and Mach 1. 5s. I attempted to do a search on Mach 1s, however, was limited by the size of "1" and adding quotes returned no results except those for Mach 1. 5s or 1. 6s. Hopefully, I'm not asking something that already has a great thread somewhere that I missed.

Here are my parameters in my decision:

1) I drive a 5-speed and have 48K on it now. I do NOT wish to replace the clutch for at least another 2-4 years. My $$$ has a limit.

2) When I do replace the clutch, it will be with one that will hold 350-400hp, and at that time, I will add an Edge EZ, MAD ECM, or equivalent.

3) I will run these injectors withOUT a boost fooler or modified wastegate

4) I want better fuel economy

5) I want more useable power

6) I live and play around 6000 feet and above.

7) I use the truck to commute 90% of the time and tow < 5000lbs about 6 times a year. These towing trips do include Colorado passes over 11,000 feet in the summer.

8) Smoke is not that big an issue for me, but EGTs are.

9) Reliability and longevity are my goals, not high HP/Torq.

10) Injectors were chosen first because I believe they are easier on the Cummins than a timing box... see 9 above.

So what do you all recommend given these parameters and why? See my signature for current status of truck.

Also, as a side note, if I get a 4" exhaust at the same time or after installation of the injectors, what will it help (mileage, egt, sound only, etc), if anything?

Looking forward to your opinions! Thanks!

Steve

Hello

I would definitely recommend the Mach 1. 5's regardless. They are very well balanced injectors and you should see improved fuel economy. I installed them along with an Edge EZ and have been very happy with the results. You won't have any clutch issues I am sure, and I sincerely doubt you will have EGT issues either, at least I don't. The Mach 1. 5's are great injectors in my opinion. For the price difference I think they are your best value.

Nobody has another opinion besides mishkaya (thanks mishkaya)? Is anybody running Mach 1's or Mach 1. 5's without a box and can give some feedback?

If your going Mach1, have you considered just saving some cash and getting some RV275 on sale, otherwise defineately go with the Mach 1. 5

Steve - if you'll give me a week, I'll give you a full report. My Mach 1. 6's are going in next Saturday and I also have an Edge EZ and a 4" exhaust.

The 1. 6's are becoming the rage. Everyone that has them loves them. EGT's are lower than the 1. 5's and have more power. They are also supposed to be the most efficient injector that Don is making right now.

OPoole has a no core charge sale going on right now for all the EDMs.

I agree with the post above, that if you are thinking Mach 1's, just save half that money and get some RV275's.

Personally, on my '02, I'm putting my money on the 1. 6's for best power with lowest smoke combined with manageable EGT - it all happens next Tuesday - sure wish I could dyno the same day, but doubt I'll have time with the 5 hour drive back from Rip's place in Portland...

In any event, *I* wouldn't bother with anything LESS than 1. 5's...

I thought a boost increase was neccesary to keep EGT's down at this HP level?? Is the HP with 1. 5's alone about the same as an EZ and RV 275's? My EGT at stock boost was fine with the EZ only, but definately needed the boost elbow to keep things cool after I added the 275's.

How much more HP do the 1. 5's give over the 275's?

RV275 vs Mach 1.5

I believe the 1. 5s are rated at about 80-85 hp where the 275's are rated at like 40. I just installed 275's due to the $$$ for the 1. 5s and I can notice the power increase & SMOKE! My brother just installed the 1. 6's & boy you can really NOTICE that increase in power. I will say you can still produce large amounts of smoke if necessary for that tail-gating ricer.

When the $$$ present themselves I plan on going to the Mach 1's however just due to the fact I'm running 3. 5's, 285's, & the DTT Auto trans & pull a 5vr over passes. I tried DD II's & I was having EGT heat issues FWIW. I could probably do the 1. 5s but I think I would be happy with the 1's & less fuel means less heat.

Clay, all you need is MORE TURBO :-laf :-laf

Thanks for all the responses. I have talked with greyghost who is much further down the bombing tree as well and I think for what I want at this point, the RV275's are going to be my choice... at least until I need a clutch... at which point, I will probably go with the 1. 6's. But this will free up some $$$ for an EXHAUST!!! Ya baby!!!

Thanks for all the feedback. Much appreciated!!

I gotta get my 2 cents worth in. I tow heavy (14K 5ver) sometimes. I have run 2. 4's and 3. 4 and now run 1. Puurfects which when I asked Don he stated that they were about the equivalent of 1. 6's.

Don is the magician, Rip is the experienced and I will tell you, blowing my own horn, that it may have been I that started the 1. 6 craze. When running the 2. 4's they were just a little hot for towing (I did tow to West Yellowstone and there are some major mountain passes in that area). I told Rip that I wanted the purfect injector. As much power as my 2. 4's, less smoke, less heat and same mileage and Rip says to me, yeah and you want the purfect woman, a hole in one and the winning lotto ticket. Well, Don achieved what I wanted, Rip put them in for me and I am one satisfied customer. Reduced my EGT's about 100-150degrees when towing and power is still there as to which some will attest to. Have not dynoed the 1. 6's against the 2. 4's but SOP meter and a couple of "street" get it on's prove that I am still pretty quick. CaTCH me if you can.

Roger

But aren't you running a new Turbo too? Isn't that what the "DodgeZilla" in your signature refers to?

In addition, you are running a bigger exhaust, the catcher, and a drag comp not to mention a transmission to hold it all and a scotty II.

If I had $$$ for those bombs, I would ABSOLUTELY get Don's injectors... probably ask him to make 2. 0+'s and call them 2. PurrFect. ;) :)

But I have to start within my trucks current capabilities which is limited by my wallet's. :(

Perhaps we should make this a "sticky" message from Roger. I believe I've read this same post in several other threads. Tell me, my friend, do you have this saved on a word file and copy and paste it everytime a thread about 1. 6's rolls around? :-laf

Just joking with ya, but it does sound kind of boastful and self-promoting. ;)

Dang good idea, I should have saved this as a word file, haha. Yes it does sound boastful, but self promoting I don't know. I do toot the horn for good products, services, etc. I know it might sound egotistical and you are right, I should tone it down. But I just get to enthustiastic or is that fanatical. I do know the old axiom that it is better to keep ones mouth shut than open it and remove all doubt that you are an idiot but I honestly was just trying to be helpful to some of the new comers.

And honestly, I take no offense at your critique. I simply will save all the URL's to the threads I have posted on with regards to injectors/CaTCHER etc. and just copy them to my reply. LOL at myself

Roger - I was just messin' with ya. It just felt like deja vu when I read that. :-laf I couldn't pass it up.

But to give you your credit - you were the one that sparked the idea. ;)
