Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Exhaust and turbo question?

I will try to give you all the information on the first go around

2000 3500

4. 10 Gears

Automatic

TST powermax Comp

Mach 6

Silver Bullet

Snow Meth Injection Running straight water to control EGT's

AFE Intake

4" dp 5" at transmission Straight piped

With tst in all different levels hoping that fueling changes in the TST levels may help. upon doing so, Weather it was on 0 or level 9 EGT's were essentially the same. Egt's reach 1600 and do not drop back down as turbo spools????? Obviously this is not held for more than 5-10 seconds. Next item todo is o ring heads and raise boost pressure but more boost isnt always better unless this turbo requires higher levels to control air flow. Please Help

thanks, Scott

Scott,

Im running 6's and a drag comp and a sps66, same exh. setup. I can peg on 5x5 but otherwise no egt issues. Im not even getting 1400 deg on level one but still get 50lb. Thats wastegated at 45. Im getting the orings and studs and water meth, ill let you know how it turns out!

So how do you like that silver bullet , im thinking of upgrading

Ya I can hit 1800 with mine, changing the cam out soon to help it out. But I am not complaining at all... ... ..... the charger flat out rocks. I am seeing boost pressure of 65psi but have not had time yet to do a back pressure test. Maybe this weekend.

Wow, 1800. Now that's hot. My gauge only goes to 1600 and I hope I never see that.

After pulling the Smarty out and returning to stock with only the TST PM3 Comp, my temps were way up. Like to 1500 degrees.

So, maybe you just need a little timing? Are you running anything to add a little timing to the mix? If not, might be worth a quick test.

At 6000' running 6s and PS 64 I can hit 1500 on 5x5 during a long 5th gear pull. Everyday driving on 3x5 it might hit 1350 once in awhile during 5th gear blasts. It did go to 1580 on a long pull on a Superflow dyno. Maybe I'm seeing only what I want to see but I don't worry about it much for short periods. I'm planning on one of Don's cam as soon as I can and hope it will help a little with spool. If it will cool EGTs a little then that will just be an added bonus. How about a cam, smarty with a redline box? Would be more fun if the thing would pull out hard to 3500rpm...

I noticed after my cam was installed, depending on engine load, 50F to 150F EGT reduction and 1 psi to 4 psi boost reduction.

well i think i can add to this little chat about temps with a Silver Bullet. i run a good sized cam that needed the pistons cut, a TST comp, EZ, Water/meth, 8x14 injectors, and a HRVP. i see 1475 on a hard pull with no box or water. i have yet to turn on the box to play with, but i can tell you this it will be hot even at 70psi. spicyjam has a good runing truck, but needs a injector change to cool it off and keep the power.

The cam help me tons!!

I lost over 200 degrees, faster spool and less smoke. We recently put a Helix 2 in a buddies truck and he can't believe how much sooner it lights.

With the twins, you don't get as much pressure drop as with a single. But with the little single I used to run, I lost 3 psi overall. It sure wasn't hurting me!

Your altitude will have more effect than anything.

nice thing about Don's cams is that you are not required to do any other machining when you are swapping it. No fly cuts. And springs are probably going to be recommended.

I am currently running the pressed on gear. It really works good.

But the best part is that 12V lift pump! I have now broken my lift pump life record! :-laf

Twins... Isn't that what the Mach 6's say. I thought that if you wanted to daily drive with M-6's they recomend twins?

There are some singles that can push more air than certain sets of twins..... I wouldn't own a set of Machs... ... ... . Bowl Burners I call em.

Turbo Tweaker see if you can find that pic again, I have been looking for it, but you know how things dissappear around here to "protect" people. Later.

Oh please post that pic... ..... I'd love to see it.

yup i was in your same boat, thing is i was running a Jammer BB that was somehow faulty (still troubleshooting, installing it on another truck) anyway i switched from a TST to a COMP and that made alot of difference, i could easily peg 1600 pretty quickly with the TST, now with the COMP at the end of the dragstrip i am barely climbing 1500-1550 so its good for me. still have turbo issues though fyi, but the timing made alot of difference... 5250 feet here by the way

I hit 1733 last weekend at IRP. THat is not all that hot for that box and those injectors.

How much boost were you making with the twins? Wayne said you shortened the spring on the wastegate.
