Fellow Rammers:

Today, I made my fog lights operate off a separate switch in the cab for daylight running lights. Since + battery sits at the lights all the time, all I did was install a relay that that operated by a switch in the cab with a switched battery source (so they turn off when I turn the truck off). The relay provides a ground to battery side of the contacts in the fog lamp relay. The fog lamp indicator lights in the truck when I have the daytime running lights on.

I also connected some 150 watt off road lights facing backwards on my headache rack. All connections saudered with heat shrink.

See y'all,

Fog lights have a relay in the PDC. It can be rewired for automatic DRL.

. . . Fog lights have a relay in the PDC. It can be rewired for automatic DRL. . . .

The fog lamp relay in the PDC in Wiredawg's 2002 and other recent Rams does not turn on the fog lamps. The PDC fog lamp relay is in series with the dash fog lamp switch. Both must be in the closed "on" position for the fog lamps to light. The purpose of the fog lamp relay in the PDC is to prevent (by opening) the fog lamps from being lit along with high beams.

A good way to think of the fog lamp function in recent Rams is that it allows the fog lamps to be on. It doesn't turn them on. You still need the dash switch for that or Wiredawg's added relay.

They are brite! Dumba$$ me was aiming them this evening and I looked in to 'em by accident. My eyes still ain't right. They are Pro Comp off-road lights. I've had them for about 8 years. Used to have them on a Toyota 4X4 I used to have, had them on my old 2500 but never connected them on it in 2 years.

Lizzyhermit: I bought 100 ft of 12 ga copper stranded wire at Lowes for $10. Bought 30 ft of 3/8" flexible tubing to protect wiring under the truck, thru the frame and into the engine compartment and into the cab.

I have a pair of KC miniature lighted rocker switches mounted. Looks mighty sweet guys.

See ya, Wiredawg

Bomb the switch

I took the headlight switch apart and removed the tabs or wedges. I used a small dremel like tool to grind down the wedges that force the fog light switch off when you turn the headlight switch off. I can turn the fog lights on any time, but they also stay on with the ignition off. I need a relay in the circuit, so i don't leave the fogs on.

The headlight switch uses switching ground to close relay to turn on fog lights. Turning on the high beams energizes that circuit and turns off the fog lights.

I've opened my PDC and rewired the fog light relay to be DRL. Used second relay to shutoff DRL with parking brake. The DRL only comes on with ignition on and parking brake off. Maybe I can scan and post my modified wiring service manual page?
