When You produces millions of Engines, Your maintence recommendations will be worst case scenario, The maker has no idea on storage or use. We store our 4-stroke snowmobiles in the trailer during the off season April-Dec, I was going to change the oil Sch-9000 before the last season, just for SAG I pull samples and off to blackstone ,Hu ha after 5 years all was still good, I will change them all this Dec before the season. By the way they both hold 3.5QTs, It takes 1.5hrs Per machine to LOF, the filters are buried and you must remove the bulk head cover to reach the crankcase drain plug, the Auxiliary Reservoir is not problem.

Oil service is open to the owner, Some think its the ONLY maintence necessary, We had owners coming to the shop that service oil every 3K, on a rolling dumps in need of $3K+ in maintence... that fresh oil won't know what to do when it get in there surrounded by poorly running engine.

Now I'm really going to PO some, the same maker may state the trans fluid is good for life, go figure, that puts a big hole in the engineering subjective point.

I do not drive much, but when I do I tow heavy. I will drive 5-10k a year. So my thought is to change it once a year with Rotella T6. Thank god I do not drive more as the oil filter is a REAL PAIN IN THE ***.

Have you read my "EASY! 2013 up oil change" post? It really is not hard at all.

Apples and oranges, transmission fluid has an easy life compared to engine oil. Read the article I posted above, a transmission is not subjected to the vast majority of those concerns.

That's true. But if the oil sits in the crank case and doesn't move, it's not subject to about half of the things listed in the article to a great extent

and that's true too, but for most of us, we drive our trucks in 6 months quite a bit more than a truck siting on the dealer's lot. That's what the original discussion was about. Somebody else brought the dealer lot thing into it as an (somewhat unrelated) example.

What it comes down to, is they have a reason for the 6 month interval, for the reason listed in the article. Does that mean complete oil failure at 6.1 months, no.....but why is two oil changes in a year such a big deal to people?

Its not a big deal, simply a topic of discussion. I understand why they have the six month interval. I also believe that most 6 month old oil with 4000 miles on it can continue to be run. Would I? Not if still under warranty. After warranty, you bet. The comment I made about dealers lots in my mind is very relevant. The oil change recommendations do not make an exception for low or no miles. It was an example of how the recommendations don't fit all circumstances.

And Newsa we are not tired of you, keep typing buddy!
