Well got my trans all put back together and headed for home yesterday with a small trailer(about 4000lbs and 900 miles) all was well for the first half of the trip and around reno my egts really started getting out of control. By the time i hit utah i had been watching my pyro more than the road. Any hill at all would jump right to 1400 and climbing. I was crusing at 75mph 1200 degrees and 15 to 20lbs of boost. Tons of smoke from the pipe. Truck is not lacking for power just much more slow to make boost. And a constant smoke trail. At first I thought maybe i had underestimated the weight of the trailer as i do have a lot of fuel but tried to drive today and still have a ton more smoke than usual. I was thinking map sensor but i have black spots all over my rear fender in the mits of all of the usuall soot witch makes me think i may have lost another of edges(diesel dynamics) crappy injectors. My idle seams a bit more erratic than usuall as well( truck has idled like crap ever since the injector swap. ) Turning my fuel down is not an option at this point since my smarty was stolen and i am stuck on sw9. Thanks for any help or something I might have overlooked.
 
did you buy the injectors complete? Were you towing in OD? Were your rpm's kept up? (no lugging)

no nozzles were bought direct from edge and set up by industial injection. Yes i was towing in od as i always have with no problems. Droping out of od would bring egts down to around 1100 at 65 mph and 2400rpm. As a side note i also burned about 40 pecent more fuel than i ever have on this trip.
 
I am not sure about a way to test one, however a new sensor from cummins is not too expensive, I think I paid like $40-$50. There is a cummins in sparks, and one right off the I-80 in Elko.
 
I know that this is not a real good test but it was the best i could come up with to show my problem is not just the fact that i cant drive. :-laf

This is the video i shot yesterday. There is nothing different on the truck between the two pics exept a new trans and the converter is the same one i had before just rebuilt as a triple disk.

IM going to pull the down pipe today and see if maybe i damaged the exaust wheel somehow, JUst shooting in the dark but i figure its a place to start. To forrest I appologize for the snide remark I guess i get a little testy when i cant figure out whats wrong with my baby.
 
Is there a chance that your old convertor was slipping and allowing the engine to rev higher to get on top of the turbo? Now the triple disk is holding that much better?
 
I guess its possible. Im just not educated enough on exactly how the trans comes into play. I did forget to mention that i was having problems with stacked shifts about the same time my temp problem started. A friend of mine is coming down with a sps62 today that we are going to try becouse on inpection of the turbo the oil seal is going bad. My truck had 4 codes listed. I had the companion code, The ecm fueling code that has been there since the smarty and two trans codes that are caused by my lockup switch. So nothing that i have not had for a long time. But you may be on to something. I have been listening to people complain about the smartys shifting for a long time and had never experienced it until now.
 
What were the outside temps? I had the same trouble this weekend with my setup. I have heard the jammers and the BD injectors are the same. Mine smoke more and lope more the hotter it gets. Yesterday pulling my pontoon in 90+ temps I had higher engine and exhaust temps and couldn't spool as usual and had more smoke also. Even with the od off it was real sluggish. I am wanting to go with mach 4's but am thinking of maybe dropping from the silver 62 to an sps62 because I am not going to compete with the pickup anymore and am going to start towing a lot more.

Maybe its because you're too gentle on the equipment. . :-laf:-laf

I'm gonna second that, there is a huge difference between the 1st and 2nd video RPM wise.



I think you just need to keep the RPM's up and that turbo spooled.

Hendricks, check all you boots on the intercooler, upper and lower, If you have a boot leak it will do exactly what you are describing... I know, I blew a boot half off towing up a mountain... it was hard to see but the boot slid under the clamp... . Started getting hotttt... quick. My 2 cents!
 
Well i think billvo hit it right on the head. I had not had the truck in the high 90s summer heat until then. I drove back to komifornia today with the sps 62-12 and the truck just ran awesome, This turbo is great for my setup as a daily driver but it sure wont push the top end like my 40 would(gets real hot real fast under full throttle). Maybe i should just calm down and start savin for twins. lol
