How Much Are Roses for Wife?

What a pain! Has anyone else in Kommiefornia Tried this?.

I Have the Horn,Turn signals and Lighted License Plate mount on the ATV now,I still have to find some DOT approved tires for it before the CHP will sign it off.

BTW, The ATV is a 2001 Polaris Sportsman 500HO.

Doug.

Dont know about the Peoples Republic of California, but here in Indiana I have enough land to qualify for a farm, therefor I just mount a SMV sign on the back and a sprayer tank on the back rack. The Conservation Officers hate it, but theres nothing they can do. No different than a tractor going down the road.

Doug,

Is the quad red or green stickered from the dealer? I know a lot of guys are getting turned down on street legalizing 4stroke dirt bikes because they have a red sticker.

I thought there were some goofy requirements for legalizing a quad. All you had to do was lights/tires?

Brian

Here in AZ it's not too hard. Emissions can be a little tough if you have to do that. I once had a Honda CR500 with a license plate. :eek: It was a little much for the street. All I needed was 1 mirror, brake light-tail light, and a squeeze-bulb horn which came off before I left the inspection station.

I see a 500cc quad on the freeway every so often. It looks like a handfull with the solid rear axle. I'm sure he goes through a lot of tires.

Chad;

Thats and Idea, I'll see if that will work here.

JR2;

Tell me you got that from the Web. LOL!

Brian;

Its a Green Sticker, So Smoging it wont be a problem.

Todd;

Believe it or not, In Ca I have to have an Official Light,Brake and Smog Cert before I can change the way its registered.

The Reason i want to Street legalize the Quad is so I can ride down to the Lake and on some County/Forest service dirt roads to the Trail head.

Maybe an Ocaisonal ride down to the store!. LOL!

Thanks Guys for the replies.

Doug.

HDH,

Do the quads have requirements for fenders/mudflaps/tire coverage similar to a car?

I've had three street legal dirt bikes - '88 XR600, '99 WR400, '92 XR250(wifes) - all green stickered, none req'd any emissions stuff.

Brian

Don't know if this work on yours, but I've seen a Kawasaki quad with regular 13" White spoke type wheels and tires. Please keep us posted how this works out as I for one would be interested in making mine street legal here in VT.

Brian,

I far as I can understand the DMV Rules on this, The Quad Falls in the grey area between Auto and Motorcycle.

Tow Different DMV Offices up here have told me two different things. One Office says I have to follow CHP Form 888 for Motorcycle rules, And the Other says I have to Follow CHP Form 882 (I think).

Both DMV Offices and the CHP Say NO Motorcycle Edorsement or Helmet is required,Because the Quad has 4 wheels I guess.

Where those two CHP Forms Differ is in the area of getting the Quad smogged and Having a Official light and brake certificate.

ToddG,

Your right, On Asphalt or Concrete, The Mini Spooled rear axle is hard to steer,And Really wears tires out Fast!.

The Quad I have is a Polaris SportsmanHO,It has IFS and IRS, And the Rear is still locked with no Differential in wheel speed between inner and outter wheels, So yeah its Still going be a Handfull!, LOL!

RBrooks, Thanks for the Insite, I will stop by a Auto Tireshop and check out some DOT El-cheapo rims and tires. The Polaris Shop here in town say they can get DOT tires and rims for my Quad, But the cost is around $600!:eek:

Hey, this is probably a dumb question, but what is the red or green sticker you guys are talking about? I realize that it is for emmissions (Sp?) but where is it, how do you find it?

This reminds me of something that happened to me several years ago.

I was into sand rails at the time and took mine out in the street and drove around the block and back home one day. A guy who lived around the corner called the cops and they came out and gave me a warning about driving a non registered vehicle on the street.

This same guy had been seen several times riding his 3 wheeler in the street. I started watching for him to do this again. Sure enough, he was in the street again the next weekend, and in fact rode to a park a couple of blocks away. I decided that a payback was justified and called the cops. They arrived while he was returning from the park and proceeded to not just warn him but wrote him a ticket for several violations.

I am not a vindictive person, but this hyprocrite got what he deserved. I guess he figured that the laws applied to others, but not him.

Sounds like our friendly Consevation bung hole officer. He has wrote over 15 tickets this year to people on ATV's, yet he rides his nice new ATV all over the roads out by his place. People like him are why most people hate cops of any form.

I dont know about a farm plate, but you could ride just about anything on the road here if you have a "construction" plate.

Guys I know that had tandems were doing this en-mass a while back (and saving beaucoup bucks $$) the only problem was, whenever law enforcement got a bug up their butt, they'd write them up for exceeding 25 MPH!!! Const. vehicles cannot exceed 25 !!

RBrooks. Its not a Dumb Question, Just a Dumb State (California!)

Out here in Kommie PC Land, We have a Green Sticker Program Issued by the state. Its a Off road license plate. Same with the Red Sticker, The difference is the Red Sticker(Mostly 2 stoke powered) vehicles can only be run at certain times of the year, Due to the Eviro-Greenweenies crying their heads off because of smog.

The US Forest Service also has their hand in this program,They use some of the funds generated by the Green stick Program to apply for grants from the State to repair trails or close them down by using the Greenweenies and their enviromental impact reports to justify their cause and existence.

I havent Pusued this in a while due to I have not found any rims and tires for the ATV yet...

We dont have Construction plates out here, Just farm plates,But they dont cover ATV's.
