Finally got the mallory pump installed ( thanks Willie) along with a fram hpg 1 filter. We ditched the factory return line, used the factory feed for a return , ran 1/2" (-8 an) aeroquip high pressure hose from the tank to the stock filter, from the stock filter to the vp44 3/8" (-6 an ) was used.
The stock lift pump wasnt too bad , but I wanted more volume with less pressure loss for future power upgrades. Once everything was installed and running the mallory pump was so quiet I couldnt tell if it was on. The factory lift pump harness was tapped for power , and a seperate relay run for the mallory pump.
Stock fuel pressures were: idle 11 psi, 70 mph cruise 9 psi , w. o. t.
6 psi, edge box 3-4 psi.
Mallory pump : idle 11. 5 psi ( factory pump setting) 70 mph cruise 11 psi, w. o. t. 9. 5 - 10 psi , edge box on the max setting 8. 5 - 9 psi.
Im verry happy with the performance and would recommend this set up for anyone with plans for serious power.
