I Solved The "Oil Wars"

Ben Stair I package them as single coolers also. The ford zf six speeds uses part # (1fc375) which is a single cooler. That would work as a single for the NV 4500. A single for the NV5600 would take the (1fc300) that's the short single instead of the short set which is part number 2fc300.



Here's how I package them



Part #

1fc375 - NV 4500 Single, Fords ZF 6 speed single

2fc375 - NV 4500 set, Fords ZF 5 speed set

1fc300 - NV5600 single

2fc375 - NV 4500 set

1fc250 - Tranfer case single



The first number in the part numbers represents the number of coolers



The last three number tells you how long they are.



Example: The 1fc375 contains one cooler and is 3. 75 inches in length. and the 2fc300 contains 2 coolers and is 3 inches in length.

Why would we (NV5600) use the shorter cooler? I see plenty of room for the longer (3. 75") unit(s) and that would give a little more cooling (more surface for heat xfr + more oil cap) or am I missing something here?

When the trucks suspension is compressed the front drive shaft will touch the top pto cover bolt with 3. 75 inch coolers. Note: This only happens on the 6 speed with the 3. 75s and it only happens once and a while, but it will eventually scratches the paint off the front drive shaft. The 3. 75 also would not leave enough room for 4 inch exhaust.



The 3. 00s leaves enough room on the passenger side for four inch exhaust and front drive shaft clearance. But your right they are less in capacity than the 3. 75s.



The six speeds holds that extra 1/2 quart more than the 5 speeds do to start with so the final capacity with either the 5 or 6 speed is 6 quarts. Unless you want to overfill them slightly but that is another topic.
