Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 2002 question

Need to change it out bought a new one. The socket fits the old one but not the new one. Is there any difference? Can you tell me if the Banks chip I've had in for five years or more could be causing my map sensor to go out? If so, what type of chip would you recommend for my 2001 Dodge, Cummings 24 valve?

P. S. If you have a diagram of changing out the map sensor please send it to me.

Thanks very much

Are you sure you didn't buy the wrong MAP sensor? The MAP sensor is different for model years 1998. 5-2000 and 2001-2002.

The Banks chip shouldn't cause a MAP sensor to fail. If replacing your MAP sensor doesn't seem to fix whatever symptoms you're having (you didn't say), then check for leaking intake boots and/or connections. You'll need to pressurize the intake system and check all boots and connections with soapy water (look for bubbles).

Good luck,

John L.

I have a 01 and when I changed my MAP sensor there is a difference in socket sizes. The original was1 1/4" and the new one is either 1 1/8" or 1 1/16". If the plug fits then it is the right one.

i just ordered new one and hadda buy a harness for it as they do not have same end as stock anymore. hope that helps at all

The plug on the sensor is right for the 01's. but the 02's need the harness to covert the plug to the right one. Look on Hoesli's web site the pictures can explain better than I can.

I went to Dodge & asked for a MAP sensor for my 2002 & guess what?. The 2002 MAP is now called a TURBO BOOST SENSOR with a price tag of $196. 00 plus the pigtail $39. 65. The term Turbo Boost Sensor is more in line with my problem, that is loss of boost when under 1600 RPM. The boost returns after the RPM get's over 1600.
