howdy all. new here. been lurking over at dtr for a while but finally took the plunge. my question is this: does anybody have a pic or two of a MWE slot on a wh1c or hx35? having the usual flutter issue and don't really want to spring for a new turbo just yet. i have a mill and access to a lathe so i think i should be able to do it myself with some clues. thanks for any help and it's good to be here.

Welcome aboard!

I don't know what an MWE slot is, but have an HX-35 down in the garage. I can take a pic if you'll tell me what it is.

Try asking over in the 2nd gen forums, too. Maybe someone has a hx35 that's already apart. You'd probably need to see the inside of the compressor housing.

MWE = Map Width Enhancement. They are covered by the silencer ring on a hx35.

So... . would this just be a picture of the intake opening on the turbo? I apologize for appearing stupid, it's only becasue I am. ;)

Hey! Everyone starts out stupid... I did when I first got into diesels 12 years ago.

I believe the slots themselves are on the inside of the compressor housing. You can see the holes that go into the slots from the outside. I've never had one apart myself. But I know you would have to open the thing up and have a picture of the inside of the compressor housing to see what you would need to machine the slots yourself. Maybe a turbo shop would have a scrap hx35 housing that they'd sell for cheap? Then you'd be able to take measurements, etc.

I thought that was a GPS feature. :-laf :-laf

Sorry to digress... but that's my forte.

wow! thanks for the responses. i will post over in the 2nd gen as soon as i'm done. tugboat, as for what to take a pic of, i guess the best would be the compressor housing AFTER being removed from the rest of the turbo. i have found some pics of it while still assembled, but i couldn't really tell what was going on. from intake and wheel sides (or whatever the best view is). i haven't gotten that far into my turbo yet though, so i don't know if that would be a pain or not. if you feel like it, it would be greatly appreciated. if not, it's the thought that counts, right? anyway, thanks again folks.

DONE! works nice. no more flutter, and sounds like it's going to explode. :D. thanks for the pics phil. here's before and after pics.

Is this the same noise I have when towing at lower rpms, high boost, and heavy loads? The boost gauge gets to boucing, and I either lift or down shift. Sounds like the turbo is "stalling"?

When the "groove" is machined into the compressor housing it stops this pheonominon(sp?)?

Do you tow with yours swank?

After posting I noticed that you run the 12 cm housing. I suppose this just made the problem worse. I never have the problem when running empty, just towing 12,000# or more. I wonder if this would help on my stock turbo.

Thanks for the reply swank
