Ya know,, I as I was driving my truck today, I was thinking about how I was going to get the most power for the least money,,, (I think it's called value) anyway, I was thinking,, what would happen if Somebody bought Marco's MAD ECM, and then,, having a severe bombing itch, decided to try to stuff another fueling box on the truck?

So I was thinking, WoW! imagine, how much power!!,, and then , reality hit me,,, Boy! That VP44 would have to be pumping Diesel like a FireHydrant. ,, and It wasn't designed too,, Hmmmm... (At this point, I started having more fun driving, than thinking, so my performance mindstream stopped for the time being)

So,, I now am thinking of future BOMBING "needs" :) and thought, well, I'll buy a new clutch, and the MAD ECM, and by the time I save enough money to do that, my Truck will be out of the 100K warranty, and everything will be fine and Dandy, But then what would happen if I wanted/did put another fueling box On TOP Of the MAD ECM?? (I Dunno)

But for the mean time,, Like NOW, :) I am going to just put some DD3's in it,, and leave the rest of the truck stock. Till 100K rolls around.

Merrick, I took a ride this weekend in Doug's Truck, from Advanced Diesel Technology. and he has the Mad ecm, HX40, with the blue chip box and Bully Dog propane stacked on top. Andy's truck went through HX40, propane, the blue chip and a PE comp box, this weekend.

so for your question of what happens when..... well, just buy more parts and have MORE fun :D

BTW: we flew low to the ground, in both those trucks. :D

ToddT--did it blow up or can these things be added--has the truck been dynoed???--I'm confused by your statement "it went through... ... "--just a little clarification needed... . chris

no Chris he didnt blow up. Andy thought his blue chip box went out, so he installed a PE to test it out. at one point he had the bluechip, propane, and MAD ECM and then later in the day he had PE comp, propane, and MAD ECM.

he dynoed on the first combonation at 378/1200 or so, I didnt write them down. it's an auto too. :D

Doug dynoed around 461/1300 with his.

these numbers are not accurate, as i said, i didnt write them down and i am unsure of their exact readings.

The MAD ECM works great with the aftermarket fueling boxes.

Just like Todd said, both Doug and I have tried just about every fueling box/injector combo out there combined with the ECM's and haven't seen a conflict yet.

Todd, it was great finally meeting you face to face this weekend. Your airbox is a great product and I am very excited about getting it on the market. Besides working extremely well, that thing looks real good...

Everyone must go to Muncie next year. That show was a real blast...

ECM plus Black Box

I guess I'm the only one able to provide an answer to this topic.

First off, we're still having "youth" problems with the MAD ECM. It'll take us some longer before we'll be ready.

The M. A. D. ECM can work with a Black box. ( The ones that tap into the VP fuel solenoid wire)

ECM plus black box gives MORE power with LOWER EGT's than the black box alone.

I'd also add that the 2001 modells can take fully advantage of a fuelling box, only with one of the MAD ECM's.

You know about the ETH's defueling with a box? I can modify that limiter; no more defueling .

Combine the ECM, the fueling box and the bigger VP in the ETH's...

I guess that ECM + box is needed only for the serious HP junkie.

Boost of over 50 Psi is reached quiet easily. Dunno if average Joe will need all that power.

No that's a stupid statement! Power is NEVER enough! Isn't it ?!?

;) ;)

Marco

ToddT--thanks--do you know what injectors they were running??... . the torque #'s sound way to high for the HP, but like you said you're kind of winging it on the #'s end---but I'm curious about the injectors and anything else they might have on the truck---chris

I've been thinking about the same thing on the MAD ecm's. Will they work fine with my box, since my box has a built-in boost module and fuels according to boost voltage and there being no boost limiter on the MAD ecm?

I have DDII's and a Powermax3 and would like the ecm with only better timing maps for lower EGT's and better mid range. I don't need more fueling. I realize I can just get an EZ or TTPM,but I don't want to hang another box off this engine. I'd rather spend that money and have it done the right way-in the ecm.

Chris,

The dyno numbers were as follows:

Doug: 461/1313

Me: 387/1294

Doug was not running his hot ECM or propane at the time and the dyno operator accidentially ran mine with my emergency brake on so both of our readings were not at our full potential.

Dougs setup is as follows:

MAD ECM

Bully Dog Step 4 Injectors

Blue Box Premium Fuel Management System

Bully Dog High Output Propane System

HX40 with wastegate disabled

Bully Dog 4" Exhaust

AFE Cone Filter

Custom Aeroquip/Carter Dual Pump Fuel System

SouthBend Clutch

My setup is as follows:

MAD ECM

John Foster(SportBike) Step 4 Injectors

Blue Box Premium Fuel Management System

Bully Dog High Output Propane System

HX40 with wastegate disabled

Custom Dual 4" Exhaust

Psychotty Air System

Custom Aeroquip/Carter Dual Pump Fuel System

DTT 93% Torque Converter & Valve Body

Mike,

Yes, the ECM will work with your PM3 and DD2's very well. Your thinking is correct in terms of the ECM changing the timing curves the correct way as opposed to hanging a timing box off of the engine.

It's questions like these that help us in our testing of the ECM's. We want to make sure we cover every possible power upgrade scenerio on the market and make the ECM's compatable with all of them. We (Marco, Doug, and myself) all want to try every combination on the market in conjunction with these ECM's so we can provide you with a product that will work for everyone. We believe in putting out a quality product and not just rush the thing to the market to make money. Customer satisfaction is first at our company, and if it takes a few more months to perfect the ECM's, that's what it will take. But believe me, it will be well worth the wait.

Please, ask the questions that are on your mind. We want and need this kind of interest and feedback so we can refine the product.

SmokinRam, I've got a couple ?'s: 1) I read in a previous post that 4 complete files had been loaded into an ECM, how does one switch among them? 2) Will a custom profile be made depending on owner's current set-up? 3) Will the ECM be able to be changed at a future date if new equipment added? 4) Can timing/fueling boxes be eliminated and their functions be duplicated by the ECM with better response and smoke control? 5) Will it be dealer "flash-proof"? 6) For that matter (although it doesn't matter to me) is it dealer detectable? 7) Are any of the ECM parameters "user modifiable"?

I guess that's enough for now. I'm very interested in your new product. Love to have even a couple of these questions answered. R&D on :)

Oh Oh, I Love what I'm hearing.

This has to be the coolest thing since driving an ISB 5. 9.

What I want to know, is exactly what work2muchplay2little wants to know.

I understand the ECM has 4 files on it,, How Is it going to be switchable?

Is it on the fly?

Is it through tricky "Key on, Key off" procedures?

With Jumpers?

(HoW?! :) )

If I understand right,, one file in the ECM is an Exact copy of the original ECM. Will the dealer be able to detect this modified ECM?

Is it "UN-Flashable" by the dealer? (I hate to spend all this $ $ and then have the dealer "reflash" the ECM to trouble shoot a faulty T. P. S. or whatever... )

Does the "Low Power" or "defuel" program have a feature for increased Gas (Diesel) Mileage? (Retarded timing)

These are just a hole bunch of questions I have.

MerrickNJr

P. S. How are yall recovering from the messed up IAT sensor problem?

To answer your questions work2muchplay2little.

1) Yes there are four different files in the ECM. A dash mounted switch box is provided to change the files.

During the beta tests I've enabled a switch on the fly provision. I don't think that we'll enable the switch on the fly to any customer since it can be dangerous. During the file change the engine can die since the ECM has a short interuption of the data bus to the VP during the switch. To tell you the truth, my engine died only one time during all the tests I've done, but that happend @ 90Mph. Wasn't fun.....

2) We can provide customer profiles, I don't believe you'll gonna need one anyway. The four files provide such a large range of performance...

Being, file one a close to stock file. Only the boost limiter is removed in way to be able to use bigger injectors without setting codes and without defuelling above 20 Psi.

File two is there for two reasons, MPG and emissions.

The fuel curve in that file is tailored to obtain better MPG . I've moved the fuel increase back in the RPM range. In this way you get more precise fuel control, also a waaaaaay less touchy throttle. Sure you get less performance than with the stock file, maybe that's not so bad at all.

For the guys that have to get emission tested, it's nearly impossible to make the truck smoke! With my DD3's and HX-40 I get no more smoke than the stock engine would produce with a stock ECM!( In town, I drive most times with that file )

File three is thought to be used while cruising with the CC. Normally the CC becomes too sensitive when power is added. In this file the fuel curve is written in way to produce less power @ low loads. At high loads it's identical to file four. In other words,

power is delayed to higher RPMs.

File four... . As much power as possible, as soon as possible.

This file can produce smoke at off boost! Depends upon the injectors used. Then bigger the injectors... you know the story!

Obviously, there is involved more than simply more power in the MAD ECM's. Just to mention a few, Timing, boost limiters, speed limiters, throttle response... .

3) No, the ECM is ready for anything at the beginning. You add a box? You'll get more power maybe also more smoke, depends from what you're doing.

4) Yes.

5) Yes, except the stock file. When you bring in your truck for warranty work, let the switch on the stock file. They can then reflash that file, but they can't the others.

If you let the truck in any other file than the stock one, their system will tell 'em that you have a bad chip because they can't overwrite it.

6) There is an wire that exits the ECM on it's back side. Very hard to see... .

7) No. ( What for???)

Hope this helps.

Marco.

As I've said before, we're still working on it. The thing works, but needs several modifications ( working on it right now).

I need to test those mods here, then have to send new ECM's to the friends in the States. Then they have to test ( and try to break:). Not less than a month, but also not much more... .

Marco

Marco... All is sound great. . with the MAD ECM. . keep up the good work. . we all are waiting...

Have you worked out the details yet on the ECM's. . is it going to be an exchange. . core type charge. . or will will it be a complete ECM with the owner getting to keep his Stocker (the ower could do a switcher before heading into the dealer for work. . ) Just want to make sure the DC sniffers don't catch on to the smoke trail... :D

Thanks

Bryan

Marco, thanks for the detailed responses. You know how we all are, we thrive on data, especially when it's something as substantial as the project you're working on! :D I like everyone else is looking forward to it.

This sounds pretty cool. I would trade mode 3 cruise control mode for a all out MPG mode. It sounds like mode 2 cares a little more about emmisions but improves mileage. It would be cool to have one level that only cares about mileage period. The truck will drive like a moped but will get the absolut best mileage possible with no consideration given for any other critereon. Power mode, MPG mode, stock mode and emmissions mode.
