The fuse for my roof cab lights and pass side marker lights keeps blowing. For a while now once and a while when I would leave in the am I would have no lights, I would throw in a new fuse and I was good to go. Yesterday it took about 6 tries. Today it took one but now it blew again while driving which it has never done before. Also it seems to happen more the colder it gets. BTW I have Recon led cab and dually fender lights. Is there a relay someplace?

Karl,

Most likely one of the lights or one of the wires leading to one of them is shorted to ground. A lamp could have water in the body or the insulation on one of the wires could be frayed and the wire touching the body.

You could start checking by using a basic multimeter set on the resistance scale and reading from the output side of the fuse to ground. You should see a very low resistance, maybe even zero indicating dead short. Then disconnect one light at a time until you see which one was causing the low resistance short to ground.

Another way to accomplish the same thing is to disconnect the supply wire to every clearance light. Insert a new fuse and then, one by one, reconnect the clearance lights until you blow the fuse or discover the short by visual inspection. You may find one that is wet and shorted internally or you may accidentally discover one of the supply wires that was touching the body and grounding the 12volt supply.

I have a 2015 3500 dually with same problem but problem only happens when i hook up my gooseneck trailer dont even have to plug cord in just blows fuse. after investigating this i found that the left rear fender marker (red light) the harness was getting smashed by the overload spring when weight was on bed it would blow but when empty stay working.. harness is too long and got pinched.. problem solved, not to mention how difficult it is trying to find the new micro II 15amp fuses for these new chrysler products

Fuse issues... i had the same thing happen to my 2015 3500 ram dually Pickup, it would only blow a fuse if i had my gooseneck hooked up but it had nothing to do with my trailer, it had to do with just enough weight to push over load springs down enough to pinch left rear fender rear (red ) marker wire agains the block (seat) for over load spring. loom is to long. repaierd harness and zip tied it away problem solved

I had a similar problem on my '13, except it blew the fuse as soon as I drove it even when empty. My overloads had pinched the wire to the breaking point and it touched whenever the truck moved, so I had to splice in a short piece of wire before wire tying the wire out of the spring pack. It's been almost a year since the repair and all is OK so far.
