To do list for new (2003) truck

Big Bang

I actually got a new lift pump from THD and it still doing the same thing, so now it is down to the injectors OR the IP and since checking the injectors with the dye or wisp of smoke with valve covers off is much easier that is the first..otherwise IP coming off..still under warranty but a bunch of work so hoping it is in the injectors..and the truck has 353,000 miles so.
The die should tell me whether it is coming from the injectors or if found in oil BUT NOT injectors then I think it's a given that it is the front seal of the IP..I think..if you guys can think of somewhere else other then those 2 places..let me know..the hunt continues :)

Awesome idea on the dye. Sorry to hear about your brother.

It's cool you're getting the truck going though!

I bought a dye kit and UV light for $30 and put the dye in the fuel filter. Ran the truck for 30 seconds then pulled the valve cover.

#3 injector was leaking. Replaced that injector and the problem is solved.

It’s a cheap and easy thing to do, I suggest starting there.

Well still dealing with this ..took the injectors off had them tested by THD said they were all fine put back in, retorqued the head and some were a bit loose and retightened seemed to run a bit better ie less fuel in oil for about 250 miles then back to it as soon as I stepped on it more

Took IP off tested again by THD and he says it is not leaking..one of the hoses on the radiator showed hardness and some pressure on the cap when opened could be head gasket ...tested with die test no fluorocarbons in radiator...took head off to have it checked and change HG...waiting for shop to let me know what they find when testing for cracks, vacuum etc on head...
I DID notice after putting it together that the smell was horrible from the exhaust after the IP pump redo and at first I could hear the turbo spooling but after a while not and acceleration was off...could the TURBO not spooling cause all the extra fuel 280 cc not being totally burned and run down walls to crank?
Cylinders seem fine no ledge at top of walls or anything strange that I can tell

Hey guys, I need some help diagnosing what's wrong with a 2005 Dodge 2500 Cummins. Something is dumping a massive amount of fuel into the crank case; but I don't know if it could possibly be an injector, fuel pump or internal fuel line or something else entirely.

Back story: My 19 year old brother (16 years younger than I) bought this truck a year and a half ago. It ran fine and the body was in decent shape despite it having over 220,000 miles on it. He was driving it on the highway in the dark when it started making a ton of smoke and blowing oil out of the crank case vent. He wound up having the truck towed home. The next day it was clear that the tailgate and under side of the truck were covered in oil/fuel. The dipstick showed that it was way overfull. Because he spent all his money on buying the truck, he was forced to park it and put his beater Passat back on the road until he could save enough money to fix the truck.

Then last fall he and one of his best friends were killed in a car accident after his Passat went off the road and struck a tree. For weeks after the accident, parts that he had ordered for the truck were being delivered to my Dad's house. The parts were mostly front end suspension components that are worn out, as well as an aftermarket exhaust (priorities of a 19 year old kid I suppose).

It's been an long miserable winter to say the least, but now that spring is here I have decided I need to fix his truck. It's what he wanted, but never got to do.

Anyway, how can I figure out what the culprit is?
Is this a common problem? (I did quite a bit of searching but didn't find anything that matched exactly)
What are the chances that the motor is wiped out completely from the oil being diluted?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

Gotta feel good to get your brothers truck running, sorry to hear about your brother. Its hard to lose anyone you love but when they are that young, it makes it that much harder.
