Internal destruction? Driver or engine? I have had a engine or two run away over the years for various reasons, and you cannot think fast enough.

Well to tell the truth, Scott, Jeff's was just a good clean up job. The truck. From the oil pan up. Believe it or not, the bottom end was not hurt. Those rods and mains are just bullet proof. It is a bad situation.

Now when he destroyed the Dakota, that was a throttle hang too. Took out a Ga Power transformer and some pines. Ended up on the lid, torn up and more clean up. Jeff travels with a roll of toilet tissue now. You never know. That one could have taken Jeff out. He was very lucky. Us too. Who would tune our trucks? Really. Very lucky he's still here. :)

That's a nice looking piece for the shut off. What is it? Oh I know. It's a US Gear de-selerator e-brake. Right? :p

I was at the Frederick Fair this past sept, in the pits, only about 50 feet away, when i superstock tractor had a rack stick, it was running a sigma pump, probably 1500hp, and there was no stopping him. The thing he probably did wrong was hold the brake to try to stop it at first and all that did was inable the motor to build full boost, he was going at least 60mph. He only made it about 200ft before the motor let loose. Amazingly he was able to stay on the thing, only one person was hurt, he slammed into a tractor trailer and came to a stop. Worst thing i've ever witnessed. If he was pointed in the other direction he could of killed 100 people. he probably didn't have any time to pull/push his shutoff.

CLOSE! It's a Briggs and Stratton carb butterfly that I rubbed with Barry Bonds steroid cream. (darn, now I went and insulted the Baseball fans)

I seriously thought about using a old 3" E-Brake setup, but too heavy.

I just fabbed a butterfly with a mouse trap type of snap shut trigger.

This is exactly why we need to police our own sports. Think about it, pulling you are likely to stick it at a lower MPH than drag racing. You might have a few seconds to think and react. At 130-160 MPH, on a short dark track, (never on a street!) there would be no time to think and react. We wipe one out, in front of a NHRA tech crew, we will be banned for life.

Moral of the story? Pick your safety and make darn sure it works. Every time. Test it a few times, and get used to using it. If you see someone else doing something unsafe, tell THEM about it.

I am seriously working on a simple one that will not trip on accident, but will darn sure trip when Dustin needs it. I am not afraid of Dustin, but his mom would beat me senseless if he ever got hurt. She scares me.

Okay here what I did, its the same valve ole Sleddy is using except i couldn't bring myself to cutting that high performance stock intake horn, so I chose to mount it in the stock high flow 3" intake tube :D oh yeah and I chose the solenoid operated emergency air shut off valve. I sliced the intake tube and tig welded tube adapters. There is going to be a three-position switch on the dash, which will either send power to the brak away switch on the rear bumper, flipped to shut the valve automatically, and the third position will be off.

Eric, the rules state "all trucks must be equiped with a driver operated fuel shut off capable of blocking fuel flow to the injection pump" isn't this what my ignition key does on a 12 valve ? I turn the key it trips the fuel seliniod blocking fuel to the injection pump :D

This is the valve I have been testing , the results have been sent to NHRA , and this will probably be requires on any mechanical pump truck in the near future . If you are going to run , NHRA requires you must be able to hit the master kill switch on the rear of any race vehicle and it should die.

I was unlucky enough to have to use this valve at the NHRA Div 4 race last week , I was getting a little greedy , and removed the #10 fuel plate I have been running, to try for a low 8 second pass. With the out of shape 1/8 mile pass a 5. 17 @ 135 MPH I was sure of a mid 8 teen pass . well in the burn out the rack hung , I normally do a short burn out , any thing more is just wasting tires and engine when the truck got up on the tire, the motor went to around 5500 Rpm ,The truck did one of the most spectacular Pro Mod style burn outs any one has ever seen out of a diesel , problem is I was not on the throttle ,I did the instinctive “gas” racer thing and I pulled the normal cut off ,nothing , when I hit the switch the motor went dead almost immediately . I now feel comfortable that it works . I forwarded a report to NHRA and had the tech guys at the track look at it . It should be a requirement soon, as NHRA was impressed at the speed it shut down the motor.

I plan on putting this same air shut off on my truck, good job on finding it , I will wire it to open with power , and if the power is shot off to close .

We have also used LP valves. . you can get them at most dealers that sell LP. . Just look for one that has a straight through design. . the only down side is that most don't go over 1/4 NPT... There are some nice valves on the web site of the company Greg posted...
