hey all... how hard of a job to replace my master cylinder? Fairly easy? Ya gotta prime this thing somehow prior to installation? I do most of my own work on the truck but have never attempted a master cyl. my spongy/slowly travels to the floor pedal scares me... don't wanna die yet... thanks for replies... ... mike

If it's a brake master cylinder then you bench bleed it before installing.

Will come with two clear hoses and plastic fittings to do it with.

Instructions should be with it, if not then you clamp the new master cylinder in a vice. Screw the two plastic fittings into the outlets, attach the clear lines to the fittings and place the other end of the tubing into the reservoir of the master cylinder. Fill with brake fluid and using a small blunt object (I use an alignment punch) pump the master cylinder until no bubbles can be seen in the clear lines.

As a rule that is all that has to be done, if unsure then you can bleed the brake lines after install. I have tried it a few times after a master cylinder change but have never got any air into the system as a result.

Mike. :)

Oh yea sorry I didn't specify... . it's the BRAKE master cylinder... if I buy one, say, at NAPA, it will come with instructions? not goin' to the dealer for this one I don't thimk...

Hey Mike thanks! You couldn't have explained it any easier. . hardest thing will most likely be removing the old one... & those short little brake line sections under the reservoir tied to those, what are those rectangular chambers called? proportioning valves or something? those short lines/fittings are lookin' bad so I should bend up some new ones & change while I'm in there. then I guess I'll hafta bleed the whole system then. . oh well. . all the rest of the brake tubing throughout the truck I changed not long ago... any other pointers are appreciated... thanx again! ..... Mike:)
