Just received max links swaybar links from Geno's. The end that goes to frame is tapered, the original is threaded. Do I have to taper the hole? There is no reference to this in install instructions. I have them installed because I had to ruin originals.
The '03's and the '04's (at least) have small POS end links that have the tapered bolt/hole. I had to use a puller to change mine. At some point, Dodge wised up and started using beefier end links that resemble the Lorenz Links I put on. I don't know what year they switched but the newer ones do not look like they have a tapered mounting bolt.
The stems on the later 05. 5+ trucks are still a weak link and bend were they meet the antisway bar. I use grade 9 bolts and chromoly steel in our links, problem solved.
My 2004 truck had the tapered holes in the axle mounts. Had to drive the old ones out with a heavy drift and a BIG hammer. I installed the BD end links which required drilling the axle mounts out to 9/16" dia. to receive the uprated mounting bolts.
This is what can happen with the '03-'04 YM trucks:
