Nice Writeup On GM Site About Dyno Daze...

I just got back from May Madness and since information about the event is so far sketchy to non-existent on this forum, here are a few tidbits:

Three out of four Scourges attended: SOTN, SOTW, and SOTD (North, West, and Desert). SOTE did not make it (where were you, Sport Bike?) [In this context, Scourge = 500+ hp. ] Out of consideration to the govt foks in charge of setting clocks, the Scourges were careful not to take off in one direction simultaneously since the 3000+ ft lb could affect the rotation of the earth #ad

The final decision was that the first race of SOTW and SOTN would involve diesel fuel only. SOTW was allowed one choice, and decided to add any drugs desired (propane and nitrous). SOTN then had the choic for third parameters. Upon being asked how fast his Ram was in reverse, in another conversational context, he said "42 mph. " Hmmm, not 40 or 45, but 42. Clearly, the third race would be in reverse gear. #ad
Thus, the decision was made that the winner would be the best two out of three runs. It rained the night initially selected, but that would be an unfair advantage to SOTN who almost always encounters rain anyway, and is used to running with his Ram at a 30 to 45 degree angle. #ad

SOTN showed up with his bed full of parts, as an astute overvalved forum member noted is the customary configuration for 12'ers. #ad

SOTW showed up with his Ram stripped of tailgate and spare tire, and with short Scorpion tires on the front. He had to run ropes with lead weights to the ground so his Ram would not float away #ad
from the weight-saving procedures [just kidding].

After the banquet, SOTW could not be located for a last-ditch attempt to book a "conversation" Ram-to-Ram, so to speak.

It should also be noted that the overvalved and undervalved were "unbelievably" friendly to each other, rode in other Rams of the INCORRECT valving configuration for their loyalties, and even showed RESPECT for "foreign" valved Rams. #ad
What is the world coming to? Even the competing Scourges were unbelievably civil to each other #ad

Perhaps it should also be noted that we have never seen so many police cars from city, county, state, and whatever else might be possible. Driving awards would not only have been given to the sorry Rammers, but there were so many police around that they would have to line up to hand them the citations.

Finally, hehehehe. Y'all know that the controversy is all in fun. Racing will have to wait until (1) a safe place is located; (2) the elusive goal of traction is achieved to pound the pavement with over 1000 hp and a foot-TON of torque from the two competitors.

I'm sure others will fill in the forum members about the excellent new products, fun activities, etc.

Joe

Just as I thought, all the hot shots are transplanted ferd owners. Why? Because they talked trash for 6 months, and then did nothing!!!
I've spent a lot of time in the Reno area, there is lot's of places to sneak of to and drive fast a to b. That's not racing! And therefore not illegal!
Hope everyone had a good time, and J. H. 's blood pressure has gone back to normal!

Gene

Well, I had a great time meeting many of the "regulars" on these forums! Some I got to meet for the first time, others I've met at previous events. I'm just going to try to rattle off the names of as many as I can remember: Joseph Donnelly, Piers, HVAC, Larry Willard (won the long distance award, drove from Maryland!), BPine, MCrossley, Craig Metheny (sp?), Porky, Michael Brolin, Jeff (can't remember his last name, from Texas), Sparky1 and wife Nancy, Oilman, Amsoilman and wife Marsha, Scott1 ... I know there were others, I guess I'll have to add them as I remember them.
Of course "Mr. TDR" himself, Robert Patton was there, along with TDR staffer Greg Whale, "Geno's Garage" Gene & Martha Warren, and others.
A big thanks should go to the many vendors for their generous prizes they donated for the "Vendor Bingo". The "Great Hall of Gottahaveits" was a sight to see, that's for sure! So was the parking lot for the "Show and Shine" contest!
Then there was the "Day in the Dirt," which was a blast, getting to ride in Rod Hall's full-on racing Hummers, driving new 6-speeds and Durangos from Carson Dodge on off-road courses, the "Divorce Derby" (passenger navigating a blindfolded driver through cones), and sand drags! A great ribs lunch was served in a big tent.
But most of all, a BIG, BIG THANK YOU should go to John and Polly Holmes for all of their hard work they put into organizing this event. It takes them a whole year to set up the event, and this May Madness was the best ever! I don't know what motivates them to keep doing it year after year, but I hope they keep it up!
BTW, I heard there was something like 294 trucks there, but I don't have an exact number.
Andy

I got back last night after a visit with Porky's cybertwin. Gary is in better spirits and seems to be doing well. Mike Crossley, Shawn and I ramavaned through some beautiful Sierra terrain. We had lunch at about the 7600 ft. level at Alpine Lake, courtesy of Shawn's wife. The terrain is still covered in snow at that level, lots of water running in
the rivers (cold! YIKES!!!) #ad

My booth was right next to Roy and Oilman with TST on the other side. We had a set of aeroquip fuel lines displayed along with the Holley lift pump I am installing on my truck tomorrow. I was warning folks of the delivery pressure problem. There was a guy at the event who experienced power drop off on the top end so Piers hooked up a gauge and the pressure was dropping to 1psi under load! We had a super turbo for fondling, a Jardine exhaust system, etc. A LARGE Canadian showed up with some sort of air system. He had a LARGE white truck with a LARGE white trailer. Mike and Craig set up a flat screen display with some shots of the upgrades on the steroid ram. It changed pictures every 30 seconds. I got a full nights sleep last night and now I am going through MM withdrawls now #ad
!!!

Unfortunately Brett from Edge Products could not get to the event. I had his fueling module on my truck to show off but we did not have one at the booth.

We met a lot of BB members at the event, thanks to all who stopped by to say hi #ad
It's great to hear about providing some of you folks a laugh, makes my day.

One of the highlights for me was meeting RPATTON. The general has a great sense of humor and had me doubled up laughing more then once #ad
#ad
I am calling everyone goober now and frequently use "Joe s*** the rag man"
in conversation #ad
Turns out they have their own dialect back in his neck of the woods #ad

Next to meeting the general, the best part was the parking lot wrenching competitions. Their were little huddles of trucks in different areas of the parking area with their hoods up. This event may need to be renamed BOMBfest

Thanks to John/Polly Holmes, general Patton, the CVI, the other vendors, and all the friendly turboheads, even the dozen valvers.

Andy, the fellow from Texas is Jeff Clark. I believe he had a big driftwood dually 4-times-4. Thanks for making the drive Jeff and representing the lone star state #ad

Don't forget Bill Stockard and his wife. Mrs. Stockard was cute, she wanted to get a picture of lil Scotty and I. Good thing cameras have that panorama feature nowadays #ad

Boy howdy, I wish I coulda met Amsoilman #ad
I spotted someone with Amsoil across the room, but it never occured to me that Wayne would be there.

That's right... Jeff Clark. Thanks.
As far as I know, the next event is a one day deal at Timberline Dodge in Portland, Oregon. I don't know exactly when, it's sometime in June or July; I want to say July 15th, but I'm not 100% sure. Since that's about a 4 hour drive for me, I'll be there. I told Jason Burton I'd help him in his Northwest Custom vendor booth.
Okay, so who's going to that Cochrane, Alberta event on the Labor Day weekend?
Then there will be a Dodge-Ford-Chevy diesel event in Tulare, Calif. in October.
I just saw an ad in Four Wheeler for the Summit Racing Equipment "Truckfest 2000" event at Norwalk Raceway Park in Norwalk, Ohio, on Sept. 9 & 10. Looks like it's mostly a drag racing type of event, but they will also have monster trucks there. One thing that caught my eye was a photo of a funny-car looking Dodge Dakota doing a burnout with the caption reading "2 Nitro Trucks!" Try to beat one of them, HVAC!
Andy

Awww.. . You guys had all the fun!!!

Just wondering... Does anyone have pics and/or video? I'll give you a few megabytes on a hot server if you'll share it with us #ad

We have a few shots Mike took. One is a cool group pic with General Patton, me, Snott1, Mike, BPINE, heck I can't remember all the participants. We also got a pic before we left, this was around the stern of the muscle bound Ram. I hope to check them out tomorrow.

Hey, this is the second time you made a "typo" on wee one Scott's name. What's going on? Surely you don't think yer big enough to spin him up, do ya? #ad

After all, he was a loyal fan who came all the way from Canada via other points south. #ad

I enjoyed meeting quite a few of the regular posters from this site including other TDR members who arent on the internet. We just got back a few hours ago so my mind is still digesting all the info that I picked up from there. When I do I will be posting with my usual candor. #ad

Arlan, how did I miss you, I heard you were there.

Chip was there from Blue Chip, one of my heros #ad
Looks like I missed Wayne/Amsoilman too. I propose that MM is just too short.

Next year, if there is a MM, I will enter the sand drags #ad
Look out, lil' 2wd coming to town #ad

Hey Andy, Nowel. It was a pleasure meeting both of you at MM. Just a quick update on the truck. Carson Dodge replaced the APPS sensor by 10:30 Friday morning and I was on the road. I drove straight thru to Dallas in 30 hours. Got in around 5:00 on Saturday afternoon. If anybody talks to the service dept at Carson Dodge, thank them for me.

We just got home today from that long trip to May Madness, of course we took a side trip to the Yellowstone area.
Andy summed it up, we all do owe a BIG thanks to John and Polly Holmes for their tireless work in making this a big success as it gets bigger and better each year. They work on the preperation 12 months a year so we can get 1 week of fun.
It was great to meet personally some of the people posting on the website and put a face with that name.
