I have a Magnaflow muffler and the truck sounds awesome. It has a nice deep tone at idle and isn't too loud over the road, really comes alive when towing on the interstate and hills.

My "down" pipe is 3" dia and it is dark brown in color. Right before the Magnaflow, I have about 2' of 4" dia pipe that was welded in.

I want to open up the exhaust at the turbo because of the dark brown pipe. Is this dark brown normal?

I'm ready to get the MBRP 4" stainless system (#S6104409) and want to know if you think this will help. Will I even notice a difference compared to my stock exhaust with the Magnaflow muffler and 4" tailpipe?

Goals are lower EGTs, more power and same or better sound.

Has anyone installed the MBRP themselves? I should be able to do it, right?

The local performance muffler shop works with Flo Pro, but I'm skeptical about this brands quality (fit an finish) compared to MBRP.

Thanks for your help and advise.

Louis

I have an mbrp 4" and love it. It wasn't hard to put in, but, it would help if you have a sawzall to cut the old one out.

I also installed the mbrp 4" on my '96 about a month ago. Ditto about the sawzall. At the time I actually had the bed off the truck to repair my fuel lines so it was much nicer to be able to install most of the exhaust while standing. Yeah dude, just throw your box aside so ya don't have to lay on the ground. (just kiddin'). The mbrp is a nice system and sounds great also. The only thing I was uncertain about before buying it was that some guys had a drone sound at certain RPM's. Mine does not do that & it sounds strong runnin' through all 5 gears. Truck seems somewhat peppier too. Mike

Thanks for all the positive replies.

My down pipe is (pipe from turbo to first bend under truck) is very dark brown. Its 3" in dia and is muffler clamped to a 4" pipe at the x-member. The 4" pipe is normal galvanized color.

Is the dark brown normal and do you think going with the 4" all the way from the turbo will alleiviate this?

Thanks,

Louis

I have the MBRP 5" system, got it from Auto anything.com and with my HTT QD 64, I can turn some heads... . Also put a 4" system on my buddies 99 with a S&B intake, I couldn't believe the differance with just those 2 mods! I keep telling him about the SMARTY!

Louis,

I would think that the higher exhaust heat in the section closer to the engine probably caused the discoloration over time. Mine was the same way. Turned brown but never rusted out. Further back in the system is what rotted. I didn't buy the stainless system, just the aluminized. (truck's 12 years old) It may happen to mine again but even if it turned to any color it wanted, who cares? Will run the same. If you buy the stainless this may not happen. Depends on how much $$$ you want to sped & how long you're going to keep the truck. Also, going from 3" to 4" may help heat dissipation/discoloration. Time will tell. Whatever system you buy, it's money well spent. Good luck. :D Mike

Change out the cast elbow behind your turbo to one from an 05. Then purchase a system for that year, you will have a 4" system clean through.

I picked mine up from Rip @ Source Automotive. You will need one new clamp for the cast elbow to the downpipe, the one off the stocker will not fit.
